argument or explanation by combining sentences into paragraphs and paragraphs

into an essay. Learning how to write strong essays is important not just for
getting good grades or getting into a good college so it leads to get a good job
or whatever. It is important because, at its most fundamental level, it is about
taking individual own thoughts and then arranging them so they are logical and
make sense, first to the writer and then to the readers.
TYPES OF ESSAY
There are four main types of essays: narrative, descriptive, expository, and
argumentative. Each has a unique purpose. Some tell a story, some are descriptive,
and others attempt to alter opinions.
1. Narrative. From the word narrate means to tell. So this type of essay is to
tell a story from a certain viewpoint, and there is usually a reason for the
telling. All narrative essays have characters, setting, a climax, and most
importantly, a plot.
2. Descriptive. From the word describe, this type of essay describes the
traits and characteristics of people, objects, events, and feelings in
intricate detail.
3. Expository. From the word expose, this type of essay expose a topic like
to compare, explore, and discuss problems. While there is a bit of a
storytelling element to them, their purpose is greater than that. It is always
to explain some integral concept to the reader. As such, they inform,
describe, and explain.

When writing an expository essay, the text needs to:

 Be concise and easy to understand.

 Offer different views on a subject.
 Report on a situation or event.
 Explain something that may be difficult to understand.

4. Argumentative. From the word argue, this type of essay makes an

argument for or against something, and supporting that argument with
data/facts. The writer does not merely offer an opinion, but demonstrates
the validity or falsity of a topic. The writer's position will be backed up
with evidence, including statistics or the opinion of experts.

To write an argumentative essay, it’s important to research and

back up what you say in the text.
