Ethics and Biases on Moral Judgement

ASSIGNMENT #1
Instruction: Answer the questions below (one-paragraph each). To avoid plagiarism, write your own
ideas and understanding of the topic.
Paraphrased/plagiarized answers will be rejected.
1. What is Philosophy, in your own understanding?
I think philosophy is our interest in finding a way to seek the truth about ourselves, other people, and
society. We use our knowledge to reason out and gather evidence to support and prove our beliefs and
answers to particular and specific questions in order to find the reality of existence.
2. What is Ethics and the different types of ethical inquiry?
Based on what I have learned in the discussion, my idea of ethics is the use and application of knowledge
to the things that we do in our daily lives. It is the study of the standard of right and wrong which is
influenced by the terms of beliefs, rights, and benefits to society, etc. There are 2 types of ethical inquiry
which are normative ethics, and descriptive ethics. Normative ethics is a method or way of determining
if the values are right or wrong, good or bad ways.
3. Define and differentiate Ethics and Morality.
Morality refers to guidelines that you can use to determine what you ought to do in a particular situation.
Morality also allows you to figure out whether a particular decision or action is right or wrong. Ethics
is the philosophical study of morality or the standards
4. Explain how one's judgement can be influenced?
Their past and present experiences can influence judgment. The society can also influence it. Culture
can also influence it, as our own feelings, and the religion that we have, which are basically the
differences that we have overall can really influence our own judgment of things.
5. What do you think is the most common bias in our judgement? Why?
I think the most common bias in our judgment is the society. We tend to always base our judgments on
how others would react to it, or how they would see it. We are often affected by the norms or the things
that others normally do. Social pressure for me is the most common bias since people around us affect
our thinking and behavior which will also affect the judgments that we make.
