This document describes the standard specifications and features related to Georg Fischer Central Plastics' Full Port PE Ball
Valve for pressure piping systems.

MATERIALS:
BODY PE Resin: Black pre-blended bi-modal high density polyethylene resin. Recognized by the Plastics Pipe Institute
as having a PE4710 / PE100 rating with a Hydrostatic Design Basis of 1600 psi @ 73 °F. This resin has
a cell classification of 445574C* for PE4710 and PE445576C for PE100 in accordance with ASTM

*Note Previous editions of ASTM D3350 resulted in cell classifications of 345464C and 345564C.

ACTUATOR NUT: ABS High strength, works with standard 2" square drive tool.
ACTUATOR STEM: ABS Durable, withstands high operating torque under demanding conditions.
BALL & RETAINER: Nylon High strength, tough, smooth surface for superior sealing.
BALL SEAT: NBR Reliable and durable sealing from -20F to 140F.
ORINGS: NBR Reliable and durable sealing from -20F to 140F.

TEST METHODS:
ASTM D1598 Time-to-Failure of Plastic Pipe Under Constant Internal Pressure.
Must exceed 170 hours in 80°C bath @ 670psi Hoop Stress, or
Must exceed 1000 hours in 80°C bath @ 580psi Hoop Stress,
(both methods are considered equivalent)

ASME B16.40 Production and Qualification Testing

6.2.1 Shell Test - 4 psi and 1.5 times design pressure @ 73F with no leakage.
6.2.2 Seat Test - 4 psi and 1.5 times design pressure @ 73F (both directions) with no leakage.
6.3.1 Operational Testing - After testing to 6.2.2 - 10 open/closed cycles. Torque max. within Table 2 values.
6.3.2 Temperature Resistance - Operation and leak tested @ -20F and 140F without leakage or torque beyond Table 2.
6.3.3 Sustained Pressure Test - See ASTM D1598 above.
FEATURES:
Full-port design independently evaluated and tested. SDR 11 standard. All plastic, corrosion-free construction with bi-
directional sealing system. Temperature rated from -20°F to 140°F. Permanently marked for fully traceable production
information. Easy identification of open/closed position. Can be butt fused or electrofused. Gear actuation available. Provided
and supported by GF Central Plastics with over 50 years of manufacturing expertise in piping systems.

PRESSURE RATING:
GF Central Plastics PE4710/PE100 ball valves are pressure rated to at least an equivalent of DR11 pipe using the appropriate
design safety factor (DSF) for the intended application. Specific fitting configurations may carry higher pressure ratings, please
consult Central Plastics for details. Pressure ratings are subject to de-rating depending on ambient temperatures.

PRESSURE TESTING:
Pressure testing can be conducted in accordance with the recommendations of the pipe manufacturer, or as described in ASTM
F2164 STANDARD PRACTICE FOR FIELD LEAK TESTING OF POLYETHYLENE (PE) PRESSURE PIPING SYSTEMS USING
HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, typically 1.5 x's the rated working pressure not exceeding 8 hours in duration for a single test.

OPERATING TEMPERATURE:
The maximium operating temperature of PE ball valves is 140°F. The minimum operating temperature is -20 °F. Pressure de-
rating factors should be considered when operating systems above the 73°F stated pressure rating, to maintain the 50 year
substantiated long-term hydrostatic strength.

STORAGE/SHELF LIFE:
Black high density polyethylene resin contains a minimum 2% of a finely dispersed concentration of carbon black which provides
protection from UV effects. Even so, it is recommended that fittings which are stored for extended periods (two years or greater)
be stored indoors in their original packaging. Fittings stored indoors in their original packaging have virtually unlimited shelf-life.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE:
Polyethylene generally exhibits strong resistence to many chemical compounds. Known chemical resistence characteristics at
specified temperatures can be found in PPI Technical Report TR-19.

INSTALLATION:
Please follow recommended installation procedures and practices for heat fusion joining. Persons responsible for the joining of
polyethylene pipes for gas distribution by fusion methods must qualify according to the requirements of Title 49 Code of Federal
Regulations, Section 192.285. In certain applications, qualified mechanical products may also be suitalbe, consult the
mechanical fitting manufacturer for specific recommendations.
