SYLLABUS IN Contemporary Philippine Arts from The Regions


(Subject Classifications “Core, Applied, Specialized” – Strand “ABM, STEM, HUMSS) Pre-
requisite Subject:

I. SUBJECT DESCRIPTION The subject covers a wide scope of contemporary arts: fine arts, visual arts, design in art craft, and performing arts. It is designed
especially for Senior Highschool students, following the department of education’s learning competencies for Contemporary Philippines Arts from the regions. It aims
to provide the learners with an appreciation of a board range of styles in the various discipline with consideration on their elements and principles, and engage then to
an integrative approach in studying arts.
II. GENERAL OBJECTIVES AND SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
 The Contemporary Arts present lessons that discuss the characteristics of contemporary art, subject matter and style, skills, techniques, and art production 
Appreciating Contemporary Arts, introduce description, analysis, and interpretation as methods of analysis used for contemporary art appreciation.
 Contemporary Fine Arts in the Philippines Regions focuses on contemporary painting and the stylistics tendencies that define the style of contemporary painters;
contemporary sculpture, where new materials and technology have given the sculptor more choices and flexibility in art-making; and contemporary architecture
which relate itself to environment planning, city planning space planning, landscape architecture, interior design, and urban design.
 Contemporary Visual Art in the Philippine Regions tackles installation as new media art consisting of three-dimensional works that are often site-specific and
designed to transform interior or exterior spaces to achieve an effect; public art, the art in outdoor space done in a communal process that can enhance that artist’s
creativity mixed and multimedia which combines different art forms such as photograph and painting, or small stones embedded on wood. For example,
photography can be combined with digital works
 Contemporary Design in Arts Crafts, presents the contemporary expression inspired by folk arts, which include woven products: textile, fabrics and clothing, bags
and accessories, footwear, home products, ceramics, pottery, and terra-cotta, and decorative arts form paper, TATOO, coffee, and tuba.
 Contemporary Performing Arts cover the art film as a window to different worlds; theater and performance arts on stage and the street; dance and the power of
movement; and music as complex, yet humanizing art.
Each lesson is divided I two parts: Art Production and Art Appreciation. Art production is about art-making. It is necessary to understand how art is produced to
be able to appreciate how artworks come to be. This section ends with Check for Understanding and Independent Learning Exercises.
