b. Recall
In your previous grade, force and motion are already
introduced to you. As we are going to recall your
lesson, you will identify what is being defined in the
following. All you need to do is to drag the mouse
and click the answer.

1. It indicates how much matter an object has.

Answer: Mass
2. A push or a pull exerted by one body to another
body. Answer: Force

3. The change in position in relation to a reference

point. Answer: Motion
4. The distance traveled by an object per unit of
time. Answer: Speed

5. It is equivalent to a specification of an object's

speed and direction of motion Answer: Velocity

Answer: Acceleration
6. The change in velocity at a given time.

Very Good everyone! You remembered your lessons

well.

c. Motivation
Before we proceed to our lesson for today, let’s have
a game first.

Predict what will happen next…

In this game, all I need is your imagination and your

common sense. I will give you situations or
scenarios then you will predict what will happen
next.

Let’s have the first one…

Assume that there are students using phones while

riding a bus. The bus is travelling at 70 km/h when
suddenly a dog crosses the road so the driver
immediately steps on the brake. What do you think
will happen next?

The students will be thrown in front of the bus.

(The students will give more opinion.)

Let’s have the second one, …

A certain train travelling at 30km/h holds its full

capacity of passengers inside. But at every train
stop, more passengers are waiting and are insisting
to ride on the train even though it is already full. If
the train will still accommodate the passengers, what
do you think will happen? The train will become slower.
(The students will give more opinion.)

Let’s have another one, …

Your three-year-old brother wants to learn how to

play basketball just like you. So, he borrowed your
basketball ball and starts to dribble it. Then, he
decided to throw the ball against the wall to practice
shooting. With all his strength, he threw the ball on
the wall.

The ball will bounce back to him.

(The students will give more opinions.)
What do you think will happen?

Very good everyone.

Nothing ma’am. We just used our common sense and
From the guesses that you have given, where did based it in our experiences.
you based your answers?

Very well. Sometimes we know things or we do

things even without knowing why such things
happen.

Introduction of the lesson

But did you know that what’s happening around us

is actually under the laws of Science? Yes, you
heard me right. There are also laws in Science. And
the most famous law in Science is our lesson for
today, which are the 3 Laws of Motion.

It was proposed by the ever genius, Isaac Newton.

According to history, while Isaac Newton was

sitting under an apple tree, he was hit on the head by
a falling apple. This made him realized that there are
forces in nature acting on objects which made him to
come up with his law of gravity and eventually the
three laws of motion.

Sometimes simple things or even bad things

happening to us can be changed into wonders. And
Isaac Newton proved that.

PRESENTATION

To discover the three laws of motion proposed by

Isaac Newton, let’s do this activity.

So, may I divide the class into three! Let’s start the
grouping from the person at the back near the
door…
1, 2, 3, 1, 2, …

(the students will be grouped into 3)

Very Good.

So, go to your respective groups in 10, 9, 8, …

O – bserver
P – erformer

Leaders, kindly get your activity sheets.

For you to answer the following activities, read

carefully the given procedures and perform each task in
each learning station.
I will be posting on the screen the designated stations of
each group.

In each station, you are only given 5 minutes to perform

the task.

Do you have any questions?

None
Go to your respective stations in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
You may now then start the activity.

Five minutes is over.

Let’s proceed to our next station in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The students will perform the activity.
Five minutes is over. The students will perform the activity.
Let’s proceed to our last station in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Five minutes is over. The students will perform the activity.

Leaders, kindly huddle your groupmates, review and
finalize your answers in your activity in 3 minutes.

attention.

Post-Lab Discussion
From the set of activities I have given you, we have
investigated the 3 Laws of Motion. Each group will
share their observations in each activity.

In Station 1, the tasks are the following…

In your first task in station 1,

The coin stays in place and then drops into the cup.
What was your observation when you flicked the paper
quickly?
(answers may vary)
Why do you think it happened that way?

That is the Law of Inertia, which is the first Law of

Motion!
“An object at rest will stay at rest…”

That is the reason why all objects that are not in motion
or not moving stay where they are.

What if an object is in motion? What will happen?

Kindly share your observation when you put a marble

inside the balloon while swirling it as fast and as long as
you can.

Very good! That is again under the law of Inertia which When we swirl the balloon containing the marble, the
states that, if an object is in motion, it will continue to marble tends to stay in motion.
move with constant velocity.

However, in your activity did you observe the same

thing? Why do you say so?

No, ma’am. It didn’t move with constant velocity

Nice observation! It is because the Law of Inertia has a
because the marble eventually slows down and then
certain condition wherein the first statement will only be
stops.
true if the forces acting on it are balanced.
It is because there are other forces such as friction and
gravity which make the forces unbalanced.
But why then did the marble stop?

That’s right! So, if the forces acting on an object is

balanced, objects at rest will remain at rest or an object
in motion will stay in motion with constant velocity.
Therefore, if no friction and gravity are acting on the
marble, it will continue moving with the same speed and
direction.

In the second law of motion, there are three quantities;

force, mass, and acceleration.

How do the force and mass of an object affect its

acceleration?

To answer this, let us discuss first your activity in

station 2.

In the activity, what have you observed when you pulled

the rubber band 1 inch away from the starting line and
then released it? When we released the rubber band, it reaches ….

How about when you pulled the rubber band 3 inches

away from the starting line?
When we released the rubber band, it reaches ….
Will you then conclude the relationship between force
and acceleration based on your observations?

Very good! Now let us find out what is the relationship The greater the force, the greater the acceleration.
between mass and acceleration.

In your second task in station 2, we applied the same

amount of force for us to distinguish the relationship
between mass and acceleration. But at this time, we will
use 2 balls with different masses.

From the two balls, which one has the greater mass?

When you released the two balls with the same amount It is the baseball ball.
of force, which of the two has a greater acceleration?
It is the styro ball.
Will you then conclude the relationship between mass
and acceleration based on your observations?

The greater the mass of an object, the lesser its

acceleration.
And that is the Law of Acceleration, the second law of
motion.

It states that the acceleration is directly proportional to

the magnitude of the net force. Furthermore, the
acceleration is inversely proportional to the mass of the
object. In symbols,

F = ma

Now, let’s discuss your activity in the last station.

When you stepped on a ramp with improvised wheels

and pushed the wall, what happened when you pushed
the wall?

As I pushed the wall, I was drawn away from the wall.

Why do you think it happened that way? Did the wall

push you back?
No, the force I exerted to the wall makes me drawn
away from the wall since the wall is fixed.

That’s right. The force that pushes you away from the
wall is the same force that you applied to the wall
because, in every action, there is an equal but opposite
reaction force.

What is your action force?

I pushed the wall.
Now, what is the reaction force?
The wall in turn pushes me back as much as I pushed it.
How about the second task? When you inflated the
balloon and released the air inside, what happened?
The balloon traveled from one side to another.
What makes the balloon traveled from one side to
another?
The air that comes out from the balloon.
It traveled from one side to another because of the air
coming out from the balloon.

Will you draw then on the board the direction of the

force exerted by the air that comes out from the
(The student will draw the direction of the force exerted
balloon?
by the air that comes out from the balloon using arrows)

How about the direction where the balloon goes?

(The student will draw the direction where the balloon
goes using arrows)
Very good. Just like what we have concluded in your
first task in station 3, in every action, there is an equal
but opposite reaction force.

Let’s then state the three laws of motion.

What does the first law of motion or the Law of Inertia,
which we have observed in station 1, state?
According to the Law of Inertia, “An object at rest will
remain at rest or an object in motion will continue to
move with constant velocity unless acted upon by an
unbalanced force.”
How about the second law of motion or the Law of
Acceleration, which we have observed in station 2,
states?
According to the Law of Acceleration, “The
acceleration is directly proportional to the magnitude of
the net force. Furthermore, the acceleration is inversely
proportional to the mass of the object.”
How about the third law of motion or the Law of
Interaction, which we have observed in station 3, states?

According to the Law of Interaction, “In every action,

there is an equal but opposite reaction force.”
PRACTICE

Very well. Let’s try if you understood our lesson for

today.

I have here three poles representing each law of

motion. I will give a situation or a scenario, then you
will identify what Law of Motion is best shown in the
situation.

So, you need to go swiftly behind your answers and

explain.

The first group who will answer and got it correctly

will have 5 points. While the second one will have 3
points and the third will have 1 point.

But, …
If you didn’t explain or defend your answers well,
your points will be given to the group who can explain
and answer the situation correctly.

Are you ready? Yes, ma’am!

Let’s proceed to the first situation, …

1. A bird flaps its wings to fly. Answer: Law of Interaction

Explanation: As the birds’ wings push air downwards,
the air acting on it is directed upward.
2. It is easier to push an empty shopping cart than a
full one. Answer: Law of Acceleration
Explanation: Because the full shopping cart has greater
mass than the empty one. According to the second law
of motion, the greater the mass the lesser its
acceleration. This makes the full shopping cart require
greater force than the empty one.
3. A driver or passenger in a moving car who is not
wearing a seat belt will be thrown forward when
the car suddenly stops.
Answer: Law of Inertia
Explanation: Since the body is moving or in motion, so
by Newton's first law it will remain in motion.
Therefore, the body tends to remain in motion making
them be thrown forward.
4. When my father and my younger brother played
baseball, my father’s hit makes the ball far farther
than my brother’s hit. Answer: Law of Acceleration
Explanation: Because greater force results to greater
acceleration since the father exerted more force than his
5. Show gif of diving off of a diving board younger brother.

Answer: Law of Interaction

Explanation: When she dived off using a diving board,
she pushes down on the diving board. The board springs
back and bounces the person off the diving board.
Very well. I hope you have already mastered the three
laws of motion.

Now, let’s have a seatwork for me to evaluate if you

really understood our lesson.

Kindly go back then to your proper seats in 10, 9, …

In the same instruction, identify what Law of Motion The students will go back to their proper seats.
is best shown in the situation and explain your answer.

Kindly, do that in 10 minutes.

Time’s up! The students will do their seat works.

Pass your papers forward in 10, 9, …

Let’s answer together your seatwork.

The students will submit their papers forward.
1. It takes a smaller extra force to propel a small
yacht at sea than to propel a supertanker.

2. If you kicked a ball in space, it would keep going

forever. Answer: Law of Acceleration
Explanation: (answers may vary)
3. The man rowing his boat. As he rowed it
backward the boat will go forward while when he Answer: Law of Inertia
rowed it forward it will go backward. Explanation: (answers may vary)

4. No one can move the gigantic rock besides our

home. Answer: Law of Interaction
Explanation: (answers may vary)
5. A squid swims by taking in water and expels it in

sudden spurts.
Explanation: (answers may vary)

Let me check your papers and return them tomorrow. Answer: Law of Interaction
Explanation: (answers may vary)
Do you still have questions?

If that so, may you please summarize then our lesson for
today? None.

We learned the 3 laws of motion proposed by Isaac

Newton – Law of Inertia, Law of Acceleration, and Law
of Interaction.

According to his first law of motion or the Law of

Inertia, “An object at rest will remain at rest or an
object in motion will continue to move with constant
velocity unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.”

While the second law or the Law of Acceleration states

that, “The acceleration is directly proportional to the
magnitude of the net force. Furthermore, the
acceleration is inversely proportional to the mass of the
object.”

Lastly, the third law, or the Law of Interaction, states

Very Good. that “In every action, there is an equal but opposite
reaction force.”

PURPOSEFUL CLOSURE
As we end let me share something with you, may you
please read the writings in the picture flashed in front? The students will altogether read the writings in the
picture flashed in front.

Is anyone familiar with this Shutruk-Nahute?

Have you heard this name somewhere or from

someone?
None.
Why?
Not yet.
But according to what you have read, who is Shutruk-
Nahute?
A king and destroyer of a country.
Even to such greatness, his accomplishments cannot be
found in any history book, even if you will ask your
history teacher.

But how come that no one remembers this king who

conquered and destroyed a country?

What do you think is the reason?

No one cares about what he did. What he did has no
contribution to the life of the next generation.
That’s right.

Because …

“Great ambition and conquest without contribution are

insignificant!”

Shutruk-Nahunte is already forgotten. He is considered

in his time as great but history considered him as
nobody. Unlike Isaac Newton, his simple works which
were considered to be out of his common sense or
ordinary observations are still existing that even now,
we are still studying his works and will continue unto
the next generation to generations.

So, here’s the question Grade 8!

What would be your contribution?

How will history remember you?

Let’s all call it a day ladies and gentlemen. May I

request everyone to stand for our closing prayer?

Good bye class!
