Proton Magnetometer

Surveys
PERSONNELL
The day to day supervision of the gridding and
the geophysical work was under the direction of Messrs
R. Holland and D. Nix, while the overall supervision
of the program was under R, D. Middaugh of Phantom
Exploration Services Ltd.
INSTRUMENTATION
Magnetic
A proton precession magnetometer (model MP-2)
manufactured by Scintrex Ltd. of Concordi Ontario
was used for this survey. The total field measure
ment was read with a resolution of one gamma and
all values were corrected for diurnal variations
using a MBS-2 model base station recorder, also
manufactured by Scintrex Ltd. The readings were
recorded at 25 meter intervals on the grid lines.
Electromagnetic
A VLF EM-16 unit manufactured by Geonics
Ltd. of Mississauga, Ontario was used for this
survey. Both in and out of phase readings were
taken at 25 meter intervals on the grid lines.
The transmitter station used was Cutler, Maine
witha frequency of 24.0 KHz.
-3-
DISCUSSION OF RESULTS
Magnetic
The grid area is presented in plan form
at a scale of 1:2500. The corrected magnetic
data is plotted on this map and contoured at
500 gamma intervals.
The magnetic data indicates that the
underlying rocks exhibit neither any regional
magnetic trends nor any regional magnetic
gradient. A fairly large portion of the readings
are above the 61,000 gamma level indicating
that the rocks are basic to ultrabasic in
composition. Magnetic lows such as the one
located on line 4+OOW near the base line are
usually closely associated with magnetic highs
and are probably due to dipole effects.
Ele ct roma gn et i c
The VLF survey located a number of weak '
conductive trends that are not associated with
any distinguishing magnetic features. The absence
of any faulting, observed or inferred on the
property by the subsequent geological mapping -
program (see report by D. Gliddon) and the poor
conductivity exhibited by these anomalous trends
suggest they are caused by topographic features
such as low swampy ground and/or drainage systems,
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The property is underlain by rocks of basic to
ultrabasic composition that do not exhibit any regional
trends or gradients. The weak YLF trends located on
the property are caused by topographic features.
Based on the results of the geophysical surveys
and the results of the geological mapping and sampling
program carried out on the property by D. Gliddon (
no further work is recommended at this time.

4.0 Topography
The property is drained by several small creeks
which flow into Seagull Lake and eventually into Lake
Superior via the Nipigon River.
The property can be physiographically sub
divided into two separate regions. The most prominent is
the glacial deposits of till and gravel over the central
and northern portions of the property. The area is
characterized by gently rolling hills, several small
eskers trending NE and narrow depressions filled with
alder swamps. In the far south of the property, a
topography high of a mica peridotite ridge extends across
the property.

5.0 Field Program
The geological program on the property was
conducted during the period o-f April 17, 1987 to April
21, 1987 by Phantom Exploration Services Ltd., Thunder
Bay.
The survey a cut baseline and a tie-line at
6+OON striking east-west as control points and -flagged N-
S survey lines at 100 metre intervals. The survey lines
from the grid totaling approximately 24 line kilometres.
The geological mapping was conducted on a scale
o-f lcm. to 25 metres (l : 2500).
The property consists of -x3"/. exposed outcrop
which is mainly concentrated in the southern part o-f the
property.
Glacial overburden varies in thickness -from a
thin veneer to unknown thickness in the central portion
o-f the property.

8.0 Mineralization
The mineralization on the property consists of
sulphides in the form of pyrite, pyrrhotite and trace
chalcopyrite, and was recognized as disseminations in the
mica peridotite. Abundant magnetite in the form of
disseminated grains up to 0.2 cm. in size was noted in
both the mica peridotite and the syenite.
From the geological mapping program, a total of
38 selected grab samples were taken and analyized for
Ni . , Cu. , Cr . f P d. , Pt . , Au. (see Appendix )
A total of eight anomalous samples were noted,
the highest derived from the black mica peridotie sands,
sample no. 6907-SL07 located at L2W / 7 +85N which assayed
1026 ppm Ni . r, 10 ppm Cu. , 3362 ppm Cr . , 410 ppb Pd., 278
ppb Pt., and 6 ppb Au. The highest rock sample no. 6921-
SL21 located at 0+15E 7 2+85S from a previously unknown
bulldozed pit assayed 678 ppm Ni . , 19 ppm Cu. , 4157 ppm
Cr., 70 ppb Pd., 88 ppb Pt., and l ppb Au.
7
From the assay results, a correlation was noted
between anomalous Ni /Cr and Pd /Pt values.
9.0 Conclusions
Platinum Exploration Canada Inc. contracted
Phantom Exploration Services Ltd. o -f Thunder Bay, to
undertake a geological assessment o-f their 15 mining
claim property in the Leckie Lake Area o-f Northwestern
Ontario,, during the 1987 field season.
The geological mapping program outlines that
the property is underlain by essentially mica peridotite
with rythmic layered magnetite/antigorite bands which is
a characteristic o-f a layered intrusion. In the extreme
northeastern corner o-f the property, a contact exists
between the mica peridotite and an intermediate to -felic
intrusive rock which has been classified as syenite.
From the geological mapping and assay results,
a total of eight anomalous samples were obtained, six
from rock samples and two from the black mica peridotite
sands. The highest assay result obtained was from the
black mica peridotite sands sample no. 6907-EiL07 located
at L2W / 7 +85N. This sample assayed 1026 ppm Ni., 10 ppm
Cu., 3362 ppm Cr., 410 ppb Pd., 278 ppb Pt., and 6 ppb
Au.
From these results, further work is not
recommmended at this time.
