(KRIZELLE)Well, One of the most exciting event of san nicolas is Damili

Festival, So lets find out!!

(CHESCA) In San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, the month of December is a time

for expressing gratitude for the year's blessings, marked by joyous
celebrations. The Damili Festival is an annual event spanning a whole
month, featuring a series of activities such as dances, parades, talent
shows, beauty contests, a trade fair for agricultural and industrial
products, exhibitions, and sports competitions. The festival's highlights
take place during the final week of the month, with the central attraction
being the Dance Pageantry.

(Althea) The Dance Pageantry serves as a vivid representation of the

town's traditional craft, damili, which refers to the art of crafting
earthenware ceramics. It's a way for the locals to pay homage to this
ancient occupation while also striving to preserve and promote the local
pottery industry. Among the primary products of this craft is the iconic
Banga or mud pot, which holds deep significance in Ilocano heritage.
Damili has been passed down through generations, and the Dance
Pageantry illustrates the various stages of pottery-making, akin to a visual
demonstration.

(CHECA) Starting from the gathering of clay soil to the final step of firing
the pottery, each phase is depicted in the performance. The
accompanying jingle, an Ilocano song titled "Agdamdamili," reflects the
character of the local people, characterized by humility, industry, and a
love for life even in the face of adversity. All the barangays
(neighborhoods) participate in the Street Dance competition, showcasing
vibrant costumes inspired by attire from the past. They incorporate props
representing everyday life, including clay pots, farming tools, and
agricultural animals.
