The Kingdom Of Denmark Position paper On July 16th, 1965, the United States of America conducted the first nuclear test. Since then the number of nuclear states in the world has increased from 1 to 9. These weapons of mass destruction have had a great impact on civilization from the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to multiple Nuclear accidents. Nuclear weapons are one of the most indiscriminate and destructive weapons on this planet and can cause the full extinction of the human race. We the Kingdom of Denmark believe that a renewed commitment is to be made towards disarmament. The Kingdom of Denmark denounces the spread of nuclear weapons and also recognizes the need to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and nuclear technology among rouge Actors and States and non-state actors. Denmark also recognizes the importance of addressing regional challenges in areas of High Nuclear Tension. As a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Denmark urges all nations to adhere to its principles. Additionally, The Russian Federation's war against Ukraine violated the Budapest Memorandum according to which Ukraine will receive security assurances as well as Russia will respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity if Ukraine returns the nuclear weapons it inherited after the fall of the USSR to Russia. The violation of this treaty by the Russian Federation sets a precedent that encourages the spread of nuclear weapons. The People’s Republic of China is increasing its Nuclear arsenal at a fast pace which might trigger an arms race in South Asia which is a region of high nuclear tension or with the United States of America which might lead to possible accidents. We must also address the issue of the possibility of nuclear terrorism which can occur due to nuclear proliferation. Many solutions can be implemented to resolve this issue such as Nuclear Safeguards such as that of the IAEA must be followed by all nations to ensure the peaceful use of Nuclear materials. All Nuclear Counties should remove their nuclear weapons from High alert and should work towards arms reduction. We must advocate for diplomatic dialogue and multilateral engagements to increase trust and operation around the world, especially in regions of high nuclear tensions. There should be increased international cooperation and intelligence sharing to stop nuclear proliferation. Nuclear-armed states should take concrete steps toward nuclear disarmament, in line with their obligations under the NPT. Reducing nuclear arsenals and demonstrating a commitment to disarmament can create a positive ripple effect, encouraging other nations to follow suit Public Awareness should be created about nuclear proliferation and the importance of disarmament this can promote a collective effort towards disarmament. The International community can use sanctions to discourage states from pursuing nuclear proliferation. The International community should work together in order to address and resolve this issue and work towards a common goal of ensuring world peace and security. We must work fast and find a solution to this issue before it causes the death of millions around the globe.
