Importance of socio-economic status

A high socio-economic life is generally experienced people living in urban areas.

In accordance with the opinion of (Jamaludin, A. 2017). Jeepneys are paratransit
vehicles which typically seat 12 to 22 passengers (Vergel, 2014). Jeepneys
constitute the bulk of urban transport in many Philippine cities. Metro Manila, the
countrys officially designated national capital region and is home to 12.8 million
residents (PSA 2015), relies on jeepneys heavily for mobility. One out of five
Metro Manila commuters depends on the jeepney for their daily mobility needs
(Pante, 2016). The jeepney has been an integral part of the Philippine
transportation system since its inception, particularly in urban and rural areas
where it serves as the primary mode of public transportation because of its
affordability, accessibility, and ability to pass through narrow streets, the jeepney
is a popular mode of transportation among commuters, particularly those with
limited financial resources (Andalecio et al., 2020). The Jeepney represents
Philippine culture, and Identity (Cerio, 2017). It serves as a reminder of our
history to visitors from other countries. The vibrant and colorful exterior design of
the jeepney is one of its distinguishing features. Owners and drivers of Jeepneys
took pride in customizing and decorating their vehicles with bright paint, ornate
chrome decorations, and personalized artwork. The jeepney was transformed into
a moving work of art by these artistic embellishments, which frequently featured
religious symbols, national icons, and local cultural motifs (Cerio, 2017).

Moreover, government policies and regulations play a crucial role in shaping the
financial landscape for jeepney drivers. For instance, reforms in public
transportation policies can impact their income levels and job security. A report
by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) titled "Philippines: Public-Private
Partnerships in Public Transport" discusses the implications of policy changes on
the livelihoods of transport workers, including jeepney drivers (ADB, 2018).
Additionally, community support and collective action can contribute to
improving the socio-economic conditions of jeepney drivers. Cooperatives and
unions often advocate for better working conditions, fair wages, and access to
social protection schemes. A case study by Lopez (2020) titled "Empowering
Jeepney Drivers through Collective Action: The Role of Cooperatives" illustrates
how cooperative initiatives can enhance the financial sustainability of drivers by
providing them with additional income opportunities and access to resources.
