CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter explains various methods that were used in data

gathering and analysis which are relevant to the research. The

methodologies will include areas such as the research design, locale,

respondents, research procedure, and instrument.

Research Design

This study will be using the descriptive research design. The

researchers will gather information about the present existing conditions

of the implementation of the Alternative Learning System in Kiamba 1

District as perceived by its learners and teachers. The researchers will

utilize a survey questionnaire to obtain the perceptions of the ALS

learners and teachers on the implementation of the ALS program.

Locale of the Study

The study is to be carried out in the Kiamba 1 District, Kiamba

Sarangani. Specifically, this study will be conducted at Kiamba Central

School Sped Center where the Alternative Learning System building is

situated.

However, considering that the researchers’ schedule and the

respondents’ time of class may not coincide, the researchers may resort

in going to the houses of the respondents for the study to be carried out
successfully. This study will be conducted in the month of April – May

2023.

Respondents of the Study

The primary respondents of this research study will be the learners

and teachers of Alternative Learning System of Kiamba 1 District,

Kiamba Sarangani for the academic year 2022-2023.

One Hundred Percent (100%) of the ALS learners and teachers will

be asked to participate in this study. Hence, the whole population will

serve as the only source of information.

Research Procedure

Before administering the questionnaires, the researchers will write

a letter of request to the District Supervisor of Kiamba 1 District to seek

permission to conduct a survey to the ALS teachers and students.

Furthermore, the researchers will also ask permission from the ALS

teachers and learners. The researchers will clearly explain to the

respondents that their participation is confidential. All information they

will provide will be kept safe and will be used for research purposes only.

The researchers will coordinate with the ALS teachers to let them

know when the students will be in the school learning center. The

researchers will personally administer the questionnaires to the

respondents and immediately gather the questionnaires when the

respondents are done answering.

Research Instrument

The instrument that will be used has two sets: research

instrument for ALS teachers and research instrument for ALS learners.

Both sets are about the Support Mechanisms to the ALS Implementation

with four indicators, namely; instructional materials, facilities and

equipment, financial resources, and cooperation from stakeholders. This

research instrument was adapted by the researchers from Abasolo

(2017). The

To draw out the responses of the respondents in terms of the level of the

ALS implementation, scoring using the four-point Likert scale format was

employed as follows:

Weighted Mean. It will be used to quantify the ratings of the

respondents in terms of the level of implementation of the Alternative

Learning System in Kiamba 1 District.

Analysis on Variance (ANOVA). This will be used to determine if

there is any difference between the weighted means of the responses of

the ALS teachers and ALS learners.

To evaluate and analyze the gathered data, the respondents’

responses will be interpreted using the following interpretation of the

four-point Likert scale:

Interval Interpretation

3.26 – 4.00 Exceedingly Implemented

2.51 – 3.25 Properly Implemented

1.76 – 2.50 Fairly Implemented

1.00 – 1.75 Poorly Implemented
