law, to ensure the safety, health and possessions of citizens, and to prevent crime and civil
disorder.
Punjab Police has had an extremely proud history and the legend of keeping duty before self.

this has been continuously improving through the personal examples of its leadership supported
by great traditions, discipline, and highly professional attitude.
Definition
The Punjab Police is a Police Force law and order agency responsible for maintaining Law and
Order in the province of Punjab. Working under the command of Inspector General (IG) Punjab
Police. It controls all criminal cases by taking action under Police Act 1861 and 2002 against
criminals in the province of Punjab, Pakistan.
Organizational Structure
In Pakistan, a district is considered the basic territorial division. Each district is then divided into
subdivisions, which are further divided into police stations. Every police station is then divided
into certain beats. The junior officials, such as Constables, Head Constables and Assistant Sub-
Inspectors are assigned tasks such as patrolling, surveillance and gathering intelligence. In
smaller districts and rural areas, the Sub-Inspector of Police usually serves as the Station House
Officer, more commonly referred to as SHO. In larger and densely populated areas, the Inspector
of Police is appointed as the SHO. Moreover, if an area has high incidences of crimes, a police
station is further divided into police outposts.
The Punjab Police has a pervasive organizational structure, usually divided into two categories:
Junior and Senior ranks. Moreover, much like the ranks of armed forces in Pakistan, each police
force rank has its own distinct insignia. The serving personnel usually wear it on the shoulder of
their uniforms.
