Dear Admissions Committee,

I am writing this letter to express my strong interest in applying for the/leave out'the'/
Civil Engineering program at your esteemed university. I would love to study with
you because of my sincere ambition to have a positive impact and my background in
Civil Engineering. As a female from Ethiopia, I am eager to contribute my skills and
knowledge to the development of Construction Industry in my country and beyond.

Growing up observing many homeless and uneducated children my dream was to be

a person who adds value to society by solving problems and creating great work
opportunities for youth. As someone with a keen interest in mathematics and physics
I joined natural science stream. In 2015, our preparatory school organized an
informative event focused on various career paths. One of the presentations
highlighted the role of engineering in society, particularly the impact of infrastructure
failures on the socio-economic aspects of people's lives. This event sparked my
interest in pursuing a career in engineering, as I was intrigued by the problem-solving
skills and resource allocation abilities required in this field.Since then I have always
been captivated by the immense impact that civil engineering has on the world around
us. From towering skyscrapers to intricate bridges, the field of civil engineering holds
the key to transforming our urban landscapes and improving the lives of countless
individuals. This is why I decided to embark on a journey to become a civil engineer.
During my studies at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, I have had
the privilege of delving deep into various aspects of civil engineering. From structural
analysis, transportation planning, construction equipment to construction management
each subject has provided me with valuable insights and a solid foundation to build
upon the field and had hands-on laboratory experience to complement my classroom
learning. I have learned to appreciate the intricate balance between aesthetics and
functionality when designing structures, as well as the importance of sustainable and
eco-friendly practices in construction.
Beyond the classroom, as an intern I had a chance to enrol in large projects, one of
them was Kality Tulidimtu Road project which is 11 km long and 50m wide having
bridges, retaining walls, abutments, box culverts, manholes, Asphalt and I was able to
read drawings, observe construction of different structural elements and saw different
types of quality tests. The other different projects were under Anchor foundation
Specialist Company, in which I gained clear understanding about the function,
drawing and construction of Anchor foundation.Witnessing the positive impact of
these projects on the lives of individuals inspired me even further, reinforcing my
belief in the power of civil engineering to bring about meaningful change.
Currently, I am working as an Assistant Highway Engineer at Bole international
Runway project which gave me the privilege of working alongside experienced
professionals in the industry. Their guidance and mentorship have been invaluable,
allowing me to gain practical insights and develop a deeper understanding of the real-
world challenges faced by civil engineers. I have learned the importance of effective
communication, teamwork, and adaptability in successfully executing engineering
projects.
Furthermore, I am excited to study at your university and be part of a diverse student
community that shares a genuine desire to improve the world we live in. As a female,
from a country which have monolithic cave made in 13th century, I believe that I bring
a unique perspective to the table. Admission into this program would be a step
towards becoming a better and more educated civil engineer. I am confident that it
will challenge me academically and help me develop new skills that will prepare me
for a successful career that not only prioritizes structural integrity, but also embraces
environmental consciousness and social inclusivity.
.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I look forward to your
positive response.

Sincerely,

Danayt Tariku
