1. Danh từ đếm được

- Là những danh từ đếm được với số lượng cụ thể
Chia làm hai loại
- Danh từ số ít: Những danh từ chỉ sự vật, hiện tượng đếm được với số đếm là MỘT.
Thường đi với a/ an/ one.
Example:
one apple
one table
one bed
a university
an umbrella
- Danh từ số nhiều: Những danh từ chỉ sự vật hiện tượng được đếm với số đếm là HAI
TRỞ LÊN. Thường có “s”
Example: friends, apples,….
Một số trường hợp đặc biệt:
Man – Men
Woman – Women
Child – Children
Foot – Feet
Mouse – Mice
Tooth – Teeth
Person – People
Sheep – Sheep
Goose – Geese

2. Danh từ không đếm được
- Thường là danh từ chỉ chất lỏng, chất liệu, những khái niệm trừu tượng. Phải dùng các đơn vị
cân đo đong đếm để xác định số lượng.
Example:
Chất lỏng: water, milk, juice, oil,…
Chất liệu:
Khái niệm trừu tượng: music,….

MẠO TỪ
 I. A(an) và The
1. A, An
- Dùng với danh từ số ít.
- Dùng để giới thiệu thứ lần đầu nhắc đến với người nghe( người nghe chưa biết về thứ này).
Sau khi giới thiệu người nói có thể dùng mạo từ “the” khi nhắc tới vật đó.
- “An” dùng với danh từ bắt đầu bằng nguyên âm u, e, o, a, i.
Example: Hoa has a dog and a cat. The dog is called Micky and the cat is called Miu.
2. Mạo từ “THE”
- “ The” dùng với danh từ số ít và số nhiều, khoong dem duoc
- Dùng “the” khi nói đến một vật mà người nghe đều biết( sự vật được nhắc đến lần thứ 2)
- Dùng “the” khi nói đến một vật thể, địa điểm đặc biệt, duy nhất.
Example: The Sun, the Earth, the Eiffel Tower .
- “The” đứng trước một từ chỉ thứ tự
Example: the first, the second, the third,..., the only,...
- “the” + adj: dùng để chỉ một nhóm người, tầng lớp trong xã hội
Example: the old( những người già), the rich( những người giàu)..., the French( Người Pháp),...
- “The” đứng trước danh từ riêng chỉ biển, sông, quần đảo, xa mạc,...
Example: The Paciffic Ocean(Thái Bình Dương),...
- “The” đứng trước tên một số quốc gia
Example: The Philippines, The USA, The UK

OTHER/ ANOTHER và THE OTHER

Another

Another + danh từ đếm được số ít.

Nghĩa: một cái khác, một cái nữa, một người khác…
Ví dụ:
– I have eaten my cake, give me another cake Tôi ăn hết bánh của mình rồi, đưa tôi một cái bánh nữa
– Do you want another drink? Bạn có muốn một cốc nữa không?

Other
Other + danh từ đếm được số nhiều, danh từ không đếm được
Nghĩa: những cái khác, những người khác.
Ví dụ:
– Other students are from Vietnam. Những học sinh khác đến từ Việt Nam.

The other

The other + danh từ đếm được số ít

Nghĩa: cái còn lại, người còn lại.
Ví dụ:
– I have three close friends. Two of whom are teachers. The other (friend) is an engineer.
Tôi có ba người bạn thân. Hai trong số họ là giáo viên. Người còn lại là một kỹ sự.
- I have two pens. One is red and the other is blue
( Tôi có hai cái bút, một cái màu đỏ và cái còn lại màu xanh)

EXERCISE 2: Another/ Other/ the other

1. I got two letters. One was from my father. _The other___ letter was from my
sister.
2. Look at your hand. One is your right hand. _the other___ is your left hand.
3. I would like some more books on this subject. Do you have any ___other_
books that you could lend me?
4. They have two children. One has graduated from college and has a job. __The
other__daughter is at Yale University.
5. Two countries border on the United States. One is Canada. _The other___ is
Mexico.
6. Some people are tall. _other___ people are short. Some people are fat.
