Energy Resources

Energy resources may include geothermal energy, hydroelectric energy, and natural gas.

Solar energy is an energy that converts sunlight into electrical energy. It is a type of energy that is
generated by the sun. Major solar farms in the Philippines can be found in Cavite, Pampanga, Ilocos
Norte, and Cagayan de Oro.

Geothermal energy is heat within the earth. Geothermal power plants use steam to produce
electricity. Geothermal power plants in the Philippines can be found in Leyte, Negros, and Laguna.

Hydroelectric power plants are conventional technology that uses the potential energy of water to
generate electricity. There are hydroelectric power plants in the Philippines that can be found in they
are the Magat Hydro Electric Power Plant, Agus 6 Hydroelectric Power Plant, Agusan 2 Hydroelectric
Power Plant, and Ambuklao Hydroelectric Power Plant Bokod.

Natural gas is a form of fuel, and so are coal and crude oil. Fossil fuels were formed from animals
and plants living on Earth. Here in the Philippines, we have coal and natural gas deposits. Coal is a black
solid rock that can be burned. It contains about 40% of non-combustible components. The largest
deposit of coal in the Philippines is located in Samirara Island, Antique, and Cebu.

There are two types of natural resources on Earth, nonrenewable and renewable. Nonrenewable
energy resources, like coal, oil, and natural gas, are available in limited supplies. This is usually due to
the long time it takes for them to be replenished. Renewable resources are the energy source that
cannot be depleted and can supply a consecutive source of clean energy.
