Is there absent for today?

None, ma’am
Okay, very good.

Before we proceed to our discussion, let me

remind everyone that we could show respect
by listening to our teacher and to the one who
is talking. okay?
Thank you. Yes, ma’am
A. ELICIT
Our topic yesterday was all about the earth Our topic yesterday was all about the earth
and its atmosphere. and its atmosphere.

Yes, ma’am! Yes, ma’am!

B. ENGAGE
ACTIVITY 1: JUMBLE WORD GAME

Direction: There are jumbled letters, which

each group will arrange form a word/s. After
they arrange the letter, they give some ideas
what comes in their mind when they see and
heard those words.

E T AH A N F E R S R T HEAT TRANSFER

MATOSEREHP ATMOSPHERE

LITEMACGENAHC CLIMATE CHANGE

Heat transfer- the transfer of energy from a

warmer object to cooler object.

Atmosphere- is a mixture of gases that

surround the earth.

Climate Change – is a long-term shift in

global or regional climate pattern. Later, as
we go on with our discussion, we will
encounter these words.

C. EXPLORE
A while ago we had an activity and I ask you
what comes in your mind when you hear or
see those words. With that I guess you have Students listen attentively.
already an idea what our topic is all about.

Now we will have another activity that will

test your prior knowledge about our main
topic.

ACTIVITY 2: IDENTIFICATION

Direction: You will form 3 groups, each

group will be given different pictures and
then you are task to analyze it, and in the
picture provided there are blank space that
you will be analyzing what words/sentence
should. Place it at the proper place in picture
and give some explanation about what you
have done. Expand your explanation. I'll
give you 10 minutes to answer.

Group 1.

Group 1.
1. The sun warms earth’s surface increasing
its temperature.
2. The sun’s energy is used to evaporate water
and put moisture into the air.
Group 2. 3. Hot air rises and cools.
4. Water vapor condenses to form clouds and
precipitation.
5. Unequal heating and differences in air
pressure cause wind.

Group 2.
1. Radiation
Group 3. 2. Conduction
3. Convection

Group 3.
1.Carbon dioxide
2.Atmosphere
3.Earth
4. Surface
5.sunlight
6.Greenhouse affect
7. Earth’s temperature
D. EXPLAIN
Okay! Very Good
Let us give ourselves a round of applause!

So, for the given picture in group 1, as we can Students listen attentively.
see, as the sun heats the earth it causes water
on its surface to evaporate. The evaporated
water is absorbed by warm air and rises
creating clouds. The greater the evaporation
the more clouds that created. At the same
time, if conditions on the earth’s surface are
warm or hot, there is a rise in the ambient
humility. When you have high humility and a
front moving across it, the motion cause the
formation of rainstorms, thunderstorm,
snowstorm, etc.
Where you have a lot or cold dry area a high-
pressure system is formed. The air in a high-
pressure area moves clockwise. In a low-
pressure area, humid air with lots of clouds,
there is a counterclockwise motion air. There
is a constant battle between high- and low-
pressure system going on all over the earth
which in turn causes our weather to be as it is.
Always remember, heat is a type of energy
and when it is not there, we called as cold. So
cold is just absence of heat energy and that’s
why it is not an energy.

On the other hand, for the group 2, the given

picture for them tells us that, the sun generate
energy, which is transferred through space to
the earth’s atmosphere and surface. Some of Answers:
this energy warm the atmosphere and surface
as heat. There are three ways, that the energy - Radiation
is transferred into and through the - Conduction
atmosphere. - Convection

‘’What are those three ways?’’ Can anyone

recite them?

Okay, you got it right!

RADIATION
- Electromagnetic waves release energy
when they are absorbed by an object.
- Electromagnetic waves do not need
molecules to propagate them.
- On warm sunny day certain areas of
the earth’s surface absorb more heat
from the sun than others as a result the
air near the earth’s surface is heated Students listen attentively.
by condition.
- The heated air expands and becomes
less dense than the surrounding cooler
air. The expand warm air is buoyed
upward and rises.
- Packets of photons make up waves,
and group of waves make up a beam
of radiation.

CONDUCTION

- Conduction is the transfer of heat

energy from one substance to another
or within a substance.
- Is the transfer from molecule to
molecule of substance.
- Heating solids causing the molecule to
vibrate faster.
- The faster vibrating molecule cause
adjoining molecule to vibrate faster,
and so on. Students listen attentively.
- Heat is flowing from the warmer to
colder region.
- Air is extremely poor conduction of
heat.
- In calm weather, the hot ground only
warm a shallow layer of the air a few
centimeters thick by conduction.

CONVECTION
- The transfer of heat by the mass
movement of a fluid (such as water
and air) is called convection. This type
of heat transfer takes place in liquid
and gases because they can move
freely. Convection happens naturally
in the atmosphere.
- On a warm, sunny day certain areas of
the earth’s surface absorbs more heat
from the sun than others; as a result,
the air near the earth’s surface is
heated by convection.
The heated air expands and becomes less
dense than the surrounding cooler air. The
expanded warm air is buoyed upward and Students listen attentively.
rises.

Lastly, for the given picture in group number

3, that picture tells us that, solar power drive’s
earth’s climate. Energy from the sun heats
earth’s surface, warms the atmosphere,
provides energy for photosynthesis, cause
evaporation, drives the weather and water
cycles, and power the ocean current. Solar
radiation warms the atmosphere and is
fundamental to atmospheric composition.
While the distribution of solar heating across
the planet produces global wind pattern and
contributes to the formation of clouds, storm,
and rainfall.

E. ELABORATE
Now let us deepen our understanding by 1. Energy is an essential part of our daily
answering the following questions. lives!

1. How does energy relate to real life? Energy makes our vehicle's go, planes fly,
boat sail, and machine run. All living things
2. How does energy flow and affect the need energy too. Plants use the light from the
atmosphere's weather and climate? sun to grow. Animal and people eat the plant
and use the energy that was stored.
3. How does heat energy affect the
2. Solar power drives Earth's climate. Energy
earth climate and weather? from the sun heats Earth's surface, warms the
atmosphere, provides energy for
photosynthesis, causes evaporation, drives the
weather and water cycles and powers the
ocean currents.

3. Energy from the sun drives climate by

heating Earth's surface unevenly. Ice also
reflects incoming sunlight, cooling the poles
even more. The temperature difference sets
the ocean and atmosphere in motion as they
work together to distribute heat around the
planet.

F. EVALUATE
A. Modified TRUE OR FALSE

Directions. Identify if the statement is TRUE

or FALSE. Write TRUE if the statement is
true. If the statement is FALSE, change the
underline word to the right answer. I'll give
you 5 minutes to answer.

1. The transfer of heat by the mass movement 1. Convection

of a fluid is called conduction.
2. True
2. Heat is transferred by conduction,
convection, and radiation. 3. Atmosphere

3. Weather caused by the transfer of energy 4. True

between 3 things: The sun, Earth's surface and
the evaporation. 5. True

4. The sun generate energy, which is

transferred through space to the Earth's
atmosphere and surface.

5. The greenhouse effect cause climate

change by trapping heat, and they also
contribute to respiratory disease from smog
and air pollution.

B. Short essay (10 points)

Answer the question briefly. How did the
lesson help you in understanding how the
