Position Paper
Committee: Disarmament and International Security Committee
Topic: Yemen Civil War
Country: Islamic Republic of Pakistan
Delegate: Yash Negi, Sai International School
Since the very beginning, as an important member of the Disarmament and
International Security Committee, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has always
encouraged resolutions of political conflicts through peace and non-violent
negotiations. We firmly believe in the words of our founding father, Mr. Muhammad
Ali Jinnah, that religion and politics should be kept separate and, would encourage
both the parties at war, to keep the religious conflicts aside.
The Parliament of Islamic Republic of Pakistan has, already passed a resolution to
stay neutral in the ongoing war and would hold to the decision. However, as an
Islamic nation, it is our duty to protect the holy destinations of the Islamic religion. In
the same regard, we have deployed 1,000 soldiers in Saudi Arabia, in addition to the
1,800 soldiers, already training with the Saudi Arabian soldiers, on the clause of
them being deployed, only in the country.
Moreover, we deeply condemn the Houthi attacks on the Saudi Arabia’s important
cities including the capital, Riyadh and, would seriously propose the Houthi
movement, to not target the common citizens of Saudi Arabia. As per our
Honourable Prime Minister, any serious harm to Saudi Arabia’s territory would evoke
a serious response from Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Another point of concern, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan would like to bring light to,
is the increasing Sunni-Shia conflict in Yemen. According to a researcher,
specializing in Arab and Islamic Affairs at the New America Foundation, a
Washington, DC based think tank, there has been a continuous increase in the
discrimination against Sunni Muslim community in Yemen, after the Houthi
Movement, which has affected their socio-economic conditions in the country, over-
time.
In the wake of the current situation, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan would highly
appreciate the United Nation to firmly mediate in the situation and bring an end to the
atrocities faced by the common citizens of both countries. The Islamic Republic of
Pakistan would highly appreciate an initiative for peace, by any of the parties
involved and would firmly support it.
The Islamic Republic of Pakistan would also like to urge to the United Nations
Human Rights Council and the United Nations Disarmament and International
Security Committee to excite an ultimatum to the Houthi rule, on the grounds of
continuously exciting communal disharmony. The Islamic Republic of Pakistan does
not tolerate any violation of Human Rights and insights of increasing sectarian divide
between the Sunni and Shia Muslim communities and would comply to all standards
to end it.
Another method to resolve the increasing sectarian divide between the Sunni-Shia
Muslim sects in Yemen is to reproach the Houthi leadership of the Republic of
Yemen on consistently violating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ Article
(1) and Article (2). This committee can either pass sanctions against the Houthi
leadership or pass resolutions verbally condemning these violations. The United
Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights can also meet with representatives of
the leadership to discuss possible solutions.

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is committed to bring an end to this conflict. We

also look forward, the unification of all the member states, to bring an end to the
devasting prevailing situations of war at the Republic of Yemen.
