Nonstandard Units of Measure
Pace (hakbang) – distance of one step to another step from heel to heel
Foot (talampakan) – distance from the heel to the tip of the toe
Cubit – distance from the tip of the elbow to the tip of the middle finger
Digit (daliri) – width of the finger
Hand span (dangkal) – distance from the thumb to the little finger of a
hand that is spread wide
The Systeme International d’Unites, which was later known as the International System of Units
(with international abbreviation of SI), is based on the metric system. The General Conference on Weights and
Measures established the seven basic units in the system and these are listed in Table 3.3.
