Propagation

Sexual propagation in plants

involves the formation of new plants
through the fusion of male and
female reproductive cells. Sexual
propagation contributes to genetic
diversity as it involves the
combination of genetic material
from two parent plants. This method
is common in flowering plants and
allows for adaptation to changing
environmental conditions.

summarized
13 weeks
week 1
I planted the Kangkong plant and
upon its 4th day, it started
germinating. It was fast growing and
easy to plant.

At its week 2-3, it continuously grew

2-4 inches in height. Its color was
bright green, far from the Kangkong
color in the market. In 2 weeks, the
seed coat was still with the leaflets. At
3rd week, the coats were already off,
and the plant continued to bear more
leaves.
week 2-3

week 4-6
The plant grew more leaves and its
color is still bright green with a touch
of yellow as it was inconsistently
being put out in the sun.
The plant grew taller about 4-5
inches and it grew more leaves. The
plant is still bright green, but the
yellow have subsided due to
consistent watering, though it needs
more sunlight.

week 7-10

Due to inconsistent plant care, the

week 11-12 previous plant died. the unstable
weather conditions also contributed
to the demise of the plant. At 11-12
weeks of planting, this pant is on its
1st-2nd week. compared to the
previous plant, this grew slower. The
other Kangkongseed imbibed which
explains why it never grew and just
expanded.

week 13
So far the plant germinated, a few
survived, but most did not. It is
continuously growing with the hight of
3 inches with the seed coat still
hanging on its leaflet.

Leaf Arrangement: Alternate (leaves are
positioned singly at different points along the
stem)
Leaf Apex: Acute (pointed tip)
Leaf Base: Variable, depending on the specific
leaflet, typically obtuse (blunt)
Leaf Margin: Entire (smooth and without teeth or
lobes)

Munggo, scientifically known as Vigna radiata, is a leguminous plant recognized

for its small, green seeds. Belonging to the Fabaceae family, mung beans are
trifoliate, with leaves arranged alternately. I decided to drop the Munggo beans
beacuse of its fast growth and its sensitivity. The beans sprouted within 2-3 days
upon planting. I have also replanted this plant several times which why I decided
to stick with the Kangkong plant. Its highest attained height is 6 inches.
Kangkong
I noticed that the Kangkong plant depends more
on how much water was given to it. The more water given, the faster
it grows. Also, the amount of sunlight makes out its color: the more
sunlight, the more it looks like the commercial Kangkong in the
market. Other than that, Kanokong plant is a beginner friendly plant.

Based on observation and research,

garlic plant usually germinates after 4 weeks upon planting. The
bulbs, upon planting, must be enclosed with their skin for pests
not to eat the propagated
bulb. The garlic plant is a good plant for beginners in planting as
its maintenance is not high, though needs care and
consistency.

learning
experience
To take care of plants comes with great responsibility.

Consistency, patience, and perseverance were the top tier attitudes I

had to have when taking care of these plants. Both Kangkong and
Garlic plants were low maintenance plants, but as someone new to
plantcare, I had a hard time maintaining a good health of these
plants. So, I researched and askedguidance from my classmates that
had experiences on this endeavor. Among these, I have also learned
that some things are really out of my control, like how a cockroach ate
the bulb, or how the unstable rainy weather would constantly affect
my plants.

Given that the climate has a significant impact on

plant growth, it is crucial to ascertain the season
that your plant will experience. Plant a plant that is
adapted to the current climate or season, or one
that can withstand it. Additionally, consider factors
season such as temperature, humidity, and daylight
duration when selecting plants for a specific climate.
Plants adapted to the local conditions are more
likely to thrive, requiring less intervention in terms of
water, nutrients, and care.

In order to properly care for your plant in a controlled

environment and to increase productivity while saving
time and water, it is preferable to plant the seed in a
pot or a seedling tray before planting it directly into
the ground when using sexual propagation. Healthy
seedlings are raised in trays, which also make
handling fragile seedlings during transplantation
easier. When planting garlic using asexual
PLanting
propagation methods like cloves, one should
consider the condition of cloves, planting depth,
sunlight, well drained soil, watering, and fertilization.

It takes the proper combination

of soil, sunlight, and water to
plant seedlings. Select a spot
that receives enough sunlight,
has enough room, and has
healthy soil. Before relocating
plants, arrange them so that
adequate drainage is achieved.
Compost encourages healthy
development and supplies
nutrients. To make tiny spaces
for roots to sprout, massage the
root ball. Keep the stem clear of
mulch as you fill the hole with
soil. In accordance with the
plant's instructions, fertilize and
water (Kurtz, 2023).

“In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.”
- John Muir

Although I love nature, I am not a big fan of taking care of plants as at

times I could be an irresponsible plant parent. Through the following
weeks of having the responsibility to take care of the Kangkong and
Garlic plants, I took fond of it. It was not my first time taking care of a
plant, but the last time I did, the results were terrible. I could say the
way I took care of these were better than my previous projects.
Completing the output was fulfilling as I’ve learned several things
regarding these specified plants. Not only for the sake of the subject
requirement, but for experiencing what nature could bring.
