TOPIC: The Country Code

SKILLS: speaking, listening , reading

TIME : 50 minutes

Main lesson aims:


- to introduce and practice ″ must and mustn′t ″
- to introduce the new vocabulary related to rules (countryside , put out a fire, drop litter, make a
noise , grass )
- to develop the students’ listening skills for specific information
- to develop the students’ speaking skills
- to develop the students’ reading skills

LESSON OBJECTIVES/OUTCOMES:
By the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
- say rules using must and mustn′t

MATERIALS : textbook, digital book , realia

Stages of the lesson :
Activity 1: Warm up :
Aims :-to attract the Ss’ attention from the previous class and to make them feel comfortable and
confident about the English class.
- to develop students’ speaking skills
Procedure: T uses an ice breaker. She tells Ss they are going to play a game. T puts some flashcards on
the desk , showing the previously taught material (school subjects). Ss come in front of the desk, choose
one school subject and give details about it (if they like it or not)

Activity 2 : Homework checking :


Aims: - to correct mistakes
- to revise Adverbs of frequency
Procedure : T reminds Ss that last time they talked about adverbs of frequency. Then she checks the
homework (ex 2/134) and Ss correct their mistakes, if necessary.

Activity 3 : Lead in
Aims : - to introduce the Ss to the new topic – country code (rules )
- to develop students’ speaking skills
Procedure: T asks Ss to tell some rules that we have to respect when we go to the park. T tells Ss they
are going to talk about country code.

Activity 4: Presentation
- Aims: - to introduce the new vocabulary related to country code ( countryside , put out a fire,
drop litter, make a noise , grass )
- to develop students’ speaking skills
Procedure: T asks Ss to watch and listen to the lesson, The Country Code. Then , T writes the new words
on the board and asks Ss to write them in their notebooks, showing the opposite word/expression.
Ex: Coutryside ≠ city
Put out a fire≠ start a fire
Drop litter≠ pick up litter
Make noise≠ be silent

Activity 4 : Presentation
Aims: to introduce must ⁄ mustn′t
Procedure: T shows some pictures with 2 examples. The first one is : ″ You must put out the fire!″ She
explains that we use ′must′ to say what we are obliged to do. The second sentence is : You mustn′t drop
litter! ″. T explains that ″ mustn't″ is the short form of ″must not″ and we use it to say what we are not
allowed to do. T asks Ss to give other examples from the text and from the Fairyland leaflet and then to
write everything in their notebooks.

Activity 5 – Practice
Aims :- to develop students’ speaking skills
- to practice must or mustn′t
- to practice the new vocabulary
Procedure : Ss are asked to do ex. 3 page 47. Ss have to complete the sentences with must or mustn′t
and match them with the right pictures. T checks their answers

Activity 6 : Practice
Aims: -to practice the new vocabulary
-to develop Ss′ speaking skills
Procedure : Ss work in pairs and have to match the rules with the place -at home or at school ( ex. 4
page 47 ). T checks Ss’ work, with the help of the digital book.

Activity 7: Production
Aims : to practice the new vocabulary
to practice must ⁄ mustn′t
to develop Ss′ speaking skills
Procedure : Ss work in pairs, using the Activity Book worksheet, In the swimming pool and In the forest.
One says a rule and the other has to name the place ( at home or at school ). T monitors.

Activity 8 : Homework assignment and Evaluation


Aims: to develop Ss’ writing skills
to get feedback from the Ss
to evaluate Ss’ performance
Procedure: T assigns the homework for the next English class ( Ss have to write some rules for their
room ). T asks Ss if they liked the lesson and if so, to write down on a post-it note 1 rule they respect,
then stick it on their desks. Finally, T evaluates Ss’ performance and gives marks/red points.
