Instructional Strategies, Presentation

Techniques & Graphic Organizers Used in

Araling Panlipunan (Key Stage 2)

RUDOLF T. VECALDO, EdD

Professor III, Cagayan State University
SESSION OBJECTIVES
At the end of the session, the students can:

a. describe the features of each instructional strategy and

presentation technique used in teaching Araling Panlipunan in
Key Stage 2;
b. apply appropriate instructional strategies, presentation
techniques, and graphic organizers to enhance teaching and
learning experiences in Araling Panlipunan for Key Stage 2
students; and
c. reflect on the integration of instructional strategies,
presentation techniques, and graphic organizers to create
engaging and meaningful Araling Panlipunan lessons for Key
Stage 2 learners.
Basic Concepts

➢ Strategy- steps or procedure that is used to

attain instructional objectives

➢ Technique- specific tasks or ways that teacher

uses in line with the strategy

➢ Graphic organizers- cognitive webs or visual

displays that depicts the relationship between
facts, terms and ideas within a learning task
Instructional Strategies

➢ Lecture
➢ a teacher centered strategy
➢ a talk or speech given to a group of people to teach
them about a particular subject

➢ Roundtable discussion
➢ used as an expression for a group or a means to
learn by sitting down together to discuss an issue,
share opinions, facts, tactics, creation and outcome
assessments
Instructional Strategies

➢ Panel Discussion
➢ more formal than the roundtable discussion in which
experts carry in their conversation or discussion in
front of the audience

➢ Brainstorming
➢ a group of problem-solving techniques that involves
the spontaneous contribution of ideas from all
members of the group
Instructional Strategies

➢ Role Playing
➢ refers to the changing of one’s behavior to assure a
role either unconsciously to fill a social role or
consciously to act but an adopted role

➢ Socio-drama
➢ a method in which learners dramatize a particular role
based on a social issue
Presentation Techniques or
Graphic Organizers

➢ Concept map
➢ a type of graphic organizer used to help students organize
and represent knowledge of subject
➢ begins with a main idea and then branch out to show how
the main idea can be broken down into specific topics

➢ Concept cluster
➢ considered as a machine learning paradigm for
unsupervised classification
➢ can be likened to brainstorming with an accompanying
visual graphic used to cluster similar ideas
Presentation Techniques or
Graphic Organizers

➢ Cycle graph
➢ usually represented in a circular or cyclical layout to
emphasize the recurring nature of the events,
processes, or phenomena being depicted

➢ Factstorming web
➢ shows the coverage of a lesson or unit of study
➢ allow learners to contribute ideas, comments, and
feedback in real-time
Presentation Techniques or
Graphic Organizers

➢ Discussion web
➢ an organizer used to help the learners to focus their
attention on finding facts to support or to disagree with
an opinion, hypothesis or controversial idea

➢ Bubble tree web

➢ used to display hierarchical data in interactive
visualization
Presentation Techniques or
Graphic Organizers

➢ Ladder web
➢ used to organize and visualize hierarchical or
sequential information
➢ helps to clarify relationships and dependencies
between different elements

➢ Semantic web
➢ emphasizes the meaning in context
➢ helps students to organize new learning and relates it
to their prior knowledge
Tips in Using Instructional Strategies
Effectively

➢ Based on your understanding of learner needs,

choose instructional strategies that align with the
learning objectives and cater to diverse learner
preferences.

➢ Consider a variety of strategies, such as direct

instruction, cooperative learning, inquiry-based
learning, problem-based learning, flipped classroom
approaches, or technology-enhanced instruction.

➢ Take into account the resources available, including

technology, materials, and time constraints.
Tips in Using Instructional Strategies
Effectively

➢ Clearly communicate the learning objectives and

expectations to learners at the beginning of the
lesson or unit.

➢ Provide scaffolding and support as needed to

help learners engage with the content effectively.

➢ Use a variety of instructional techniques to cater

to different learning styles and preferences.
Tips in Using Instructional Strategies
Effectively

➢ Encourage active participation and engagement

through discussions, hands-on activities, group work,
and interactive tasks.

➢ Monitor learner progress and adjust instruction

accordingly, providing feedback and reinforcement
as needed.

➢ Incorporate opportunities for reflection, self-

assessment, and peer feedback to enhance
understanding and retention of the material.
Issues for Discourse

1. How do instructional strategies contribute to creating an

effective learning environment? Discuss the importance of
selecting appropriate strategies based on learner needs and
learning objectives.

2. How do presentation techniques enhance learner engagement

and comprehension. Provide examples of effective presentation
techniques and discuss their impact on student learning
outcomes.
Issues for Discourse

3. Reflect on your own experiences as a learner. Which

instructional strategies and presentation techniques were most
effective in facilitating your understanding and retention of
concepts?

4. As future teachers, how can you apply these strategies in your

own teaching practice?
Gem of Thought

“An effective instructional strategy is not just about

imparting knowledge, but about igniting curiosity,
nurturing creativity, and empowering learners to
discover their own path to understanding."
