Basic Performance Engineer Course - XG02

TRAIN - Flight Training - Flight Training Courses

Provided by:

Aircraft Family: A310 - A320 - A330 - A350 - A380

The course is designed for airlines' aircraft Performance Engineers, who are in charge of the performance expertise and who need
to know how to handle the performance software (PEP) provided by Airbus in order to make performance computations, to produce
documentation or to carry out specific studies.

This course, which is not an ab-initio course but a “transition” course, aims at bringing to performance engineers the knowledge of
aircraft systems and limitations, knowledge of the operational documentation, knowledge of the performance calculation techniques
as well as the knowledge of general performance and regulation.

Theory and Regulation

The purpose of this module is to provide the trainees with information on theory and regulation for a better understanding of Airbus
aircraft performance. This module is conducted with stand-up lectures and practical computerized exercises. The topics covered
are: Atmosphere, Temperature, Altimetry, Speeds, Take-off, Cruise, Landing, Flight Planning, and ACN/PCN.

Duration: 4 days
Applicable: All aircraft

Performance Engineering Programmes

The purpose of this module is to learn how Airbus Performance Engineering Programmes (PEP) can fulfil Airlines operational
needs. The course is based on practical use of the PEP software covering:
- Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM): computerized flight manual calculations (take off, landing, drift-down, certified speeds)
- Take-off and Landing Optimization (TLO): Runway analysis with information about any special conditions, such as runway
state or system inoperative.
- In Flight Performance Programme (IFP): production of in-flight FCOM type charts, detailed calculations for each flight phase
(climb, cruise, descent, holding), aerodynamic and engine parameter calculations.
- Flight Planning programme (FLIP): fuel and payload calculation for a given route and given flight conditions.
- Fuel Temperature Prediction (FTP): anticipation of fuel freezing procedures on a given route
- Performance Monitoring Programme (APM): comparison between actual aircraft performance and book level performance,
so as to detect any engine or aerodynamic degradation.
- Operational Flight Path Programme (OFP): Take-off and approach Flight Path calculations (all engines or one engine out)
with graphical visualisation of the trajectory.
- Noise Level Computation Programme (NLC): Take-off and Approach noise calculations at a given point, or noise level
contour calculation.
- Noise Exposure Computation Programme (NEX): noise disturbance calculation of airline’s operations at a given airport.

Duration: 9 days
Applicable: All aircraft
