Current desks in today’s world are not the best in terms of ergonomics, efficiency and affordability which effects the students and schools. School desks have very little storage for students to keep their important supplies needed for learning. Some are weirdly shaped or scaled, are too expensive or not sturdy enough and break or wobble. So in our S.T.E.M Design class we were asked to create an ergonomic classroom desk. The following design brief will explain our product that we will create. The desks we are making are designed to make the classroom experience more comfortable and productive for students as well as cheaper for the school. Our desks will have multiple factors contributing to why our desks are more, universal, comfortable and eco-friendly than existing models. Our desks will have increased cubby space, this will allow students to fit many items in their desks. The desks will also feature organizers where students can keep their desk clean and organize specific things in their curated spots. Our desks will also have increased length and width with adjustable height, giving students the opportunity to set their desks in the way that is most feasible and comfortable to them. The desks will also feature added grips and balance to the legs. For the best quality we will use strong and durable materials such as metal, rubber, paint and plastic, along with various recyclable materials like wood. In our inventory we already have materials such as wood, cardboard, and paint. Our competition are existing KCS school desks which are made by a Canadian company called MITYBILT. They create various type of class furniture. We will try our best to create more efficient, universal, and ergonomic desks as compared to them. Our target audience are schools that are looking are for the best comfortable, ergonomic, and affordable desks for their students. Also, students from the age of 6-17. Our budget to manufacture the real-life desk is $150. This budget was created as follows. The wood for the main structure will cost about $50, cost of steel and metals would be $50. Painting and furbishing the desk will cost $20. The cost of the rubber grips and plastics would be $30. The total budget of model will be $30. Lastly, the estimated scheduled time it will take to create the desk is 2 weeks, but for the model it will take 1 to 1.5 weeks. In conclusion, our desks will be ergonomic, comfortable, ecofriendly and the best in the market for it’s price.
