IV.3. Abstraction Courtship is the time in a couple's relationship which leads their engagement
and marriage or it is an establishment of an agreed relationship of a more
enduring kind. During courtship a partner gets to know each other and decide if
there will be an engagement or such agreement. A courtship may be an
informal and private matter between two people or may be a public affair or a
formal arrangement with family approval.

Dating is a social activity which involves two or more people generally


assessing each other’s suitability for a potential relationship. Dating can also be
enjoyed as part of an already active relationship. The word dating actually
comes from the arranging of a time and date of meeting.

Importance of Dating

•It forms affection and respect.


•It strengthens the relationship.
•It gives quality time to each other.
•It leads one to observe the other person’s character.
•Provides an opportunity for one to know his/her strengths and weaknesses in
dealing with the opposite sex.
•Dating in a relationship is important because it allows you to get to know the
person you are in a relationship with, while having a good time.

Marriage is the most significant event that may happen to your life. It takes
only two people, a man and a woman to unite and make a successful
relationship as married couple. Marriage is a lifelong partnership of a man and
a woman, two unique individuals, who understand, respect, care, and love each
other. It is a bond between two people who continue to grow and develop their
best qualities as human beings. Marriage is not a mere contract but an
inviolable social institution. Its nature, consequences and practices are
governed by law and not subject to stipulation except that the marriage
settlements may to a certain extent fix the property relations during the
marriage. (Civil Code of the Philippines)

Healthy Relationship
•to promote, encourage, and support healthy relationships by providing
educational skill-based programs for singles, couples and parents
•helps singles, couples, parents and organizations build and maintain stronger
and healthier relationships

What make a healthy relationship?

A healthy relationship is when two people develop a connection based on:


•Mutual respect – a feeling of understanding to your partner
•Trust – belief to your partner that he/she is reliable, good and honest
•Honesty – the quality of being fair and truthful
•Support – to show your approval of something
•Fairness/equality – treating your partner in a way that does not favor some
over your self
•Loyal – showing complete and constant support.
•Good communication – behaviors to express your ideas, thoughts, feelings, to
your partner.
•A sense of playfulness/fondness – showing that are having fun and not being
serious.

1.Marius Cleo met the love of his life in the dating application at the age of 18.
After a month, he decided to marry his girlfriend because he believes that she
is the one for him. If you are Marius Cleo, will you have the same decision?
Why or why not?

2.Ronaldo has been in a relationship for 4 years. Even if they are already at the
right age, he decided to stay in the dating stage because he still don’t really
know his partner. What can you say about his decision?

Situation:
Clifford is a married man for ten years. He has 3 children and a lovely
wife. He understands his partner as well as his children. His family was
awarded as “Best Family” in their barangay because of their good practices at
home. In every problem and challenges that they have encountered, they talk
about it and share insights in solving it. They make sure to spend time together
in a week. They support, trust and love each other.
