Course Description:
Basic Concepts in Refrigeration, Refrigerants, Vapor-Compression Refrigeration Cycles, Vapor-
Absorption Refrigeration Cycles, Air and Steam-Jet Refrigeration Cycles, Major Equipment of Vapor-
Compression Refrigeration Systems: Compressors, Condensers and Receivers, Evaporators, Flow
Control Devices, Accessories. Air-conditioning: Fundamentals of Air-Conditioning; Requirements of
Comfort Air-Conditioning and Psychrometry, Cooling Load Calculations and Design of Air-
Conditioning Systems; Air-Conditioning Systems and Equipment: Central Station Air-Conditioning
System, Unitary Air-Conditioning System.
Course Objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce and familiarize students with the basic fundamental principles of
refrigeration and air conditioning systems. This course will introduce students with basic analysis,
design and selection of refrigeration and air conditioning systems and equipment applicable for
different purpose. The course will provide students with a working knowledge of computer-aided
calculations of thermal loads and their use in design of RAC systems.
Teaching Method: Lectures supported by tutorials, Assignments Projects and lab exams.
Teaching Materials: Necessary teaching material will be selected in order to fulfill the main target of
the course.
