 What is Line Layout/Product Layout ?

Line Layouts refer to the arrangement of

workstations, equipment, and resources in a
production line or manufacturing facility. The layout
design significantly influences workflow, efficiency,
and productivity within the manufacturing process.
An optimized line layout minimizes unnecessary
movement, reduces material handling, and enhances
overall operational effectiveness.
What is VSM (Value
Stream Mapping) Example for Waste

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a lean management

tool used to visualize and analyze the flow of
materials and information required to bring a product
or service to a customer. It helps identify areas of
waste, bottlenecks, and opportunities for
improvement within the production process. VSM
enables organizations to streamline operations,
reduce lead times, and increase customer satisfaction
by focusing on value-added activities and eliminating
non-value-added tasks.

 Checklist for Line/Product Layout
1-Collect data on current processes, including cycle times, lead times, and inventory levels.

2- Prepare layout diagrams and floor plans.

3- Create a current state map using Value Stream Mapping (VSM).

4- Identify value-added and non-value-added activities.

5- Analyze the VSM to identify areas of waste and bottlenecks.

6- Focus on eliminating or reducing overproduction, waiting time, unnecessary transportation.

7- Aim for a layout that promotes continuous flow and flexibility.

8- Standardize processes to maintain consistency and efficiency.
