Exercise 1
I used to think of the Philippines is just a group of islands with stunning beaches, not
much to do or see here. Now I realize that how preoccupied and ignorant my perception was. If I
didn’t watch the videos and read the discussion about the Philippines, I won't appreciate the
beauty of what’s inside in the Philippines. The video shows the History of the Philippines and its
culture, how it started with the arrival of its first humans using rafts or boats only and how they
name our country “Philippines” in honor of Philip of Austria, who became Philip II of Spain. And
how the name extended to the entire archipelago later on in the Spanish Era. The other video
also shows our culture, preserving the uniqueness of the Philippine culture. After watching and
reading I realized that Philippines has a lot to offer, not just the beaches and mountains but also
our culture, how unique our culture is and also how unique we are. That we Filipino people can
offer a lot of things, all we have to do is open our eyes and see the beauty inside, that we
should give importance to our country.
