3. Give 10 Pharmaceutic uses of Carbohydrates. Identify first the carbohydrate then give its use.

o Glycogen – In the liver and muscles, glycogen serves as an energy reserve.


o Starches – which are widely found in wheat, rice, and potatoes
o Cellulose – One of the primary structural elements of plastic is cellulose.
o Dextrin – are -glucans having both -(1,4) and -(1,6) linkages since they are hydrolysis
products of starches. They have several technical benefits over other materials and are
employed in various formats in pharmaceutical systems.
o Sucrose – Use of sucrose in the production of syrup
o Starch – For the preparation tablets' diluents and binders, use starch.
o Liquid glucose – Tablets with sugar coating are covered with liquid glucose.
o Pectin – The anti-diarrhea medication pectin
o Gums – are used as emulsifiers.
o Dextrose – is used to make sterile IV solutions.
