Animal Science for the Life Sciences YAS11803

 We needed to present our dilemma in-front of other 5 groups. Each of us talked for some
minutes explaining what we were doing in this project. We did this to get the feedback of
our classmates and the teacher so we can know what to improve in our project. After this
we had more ideas what to d with our project and get to discuss it better.

YAS21400 BS/ Biology of Domestic Animals YAS10806

presentation. I did this to

1c. Indicate the most striking changes you observed in performance level over last year, and give
examples of how these changes came about.
Presenting
I think the most striking changes in my level of performance is that I Try to make more eye contact
and connect with the audience. For example, for the presentation of the dilemma I used more eye
contact and used more non-verbal communication comparing to the other presentation.

2. Repeat your SMART learning goals that you set up at the last self-assessment (start BAS 1). You
can find them in the BS assignment (04. Start_Y1_Presenting).
Presenting
SMART goal 1:
S: I want to improve my presenting skills for example eye contact and including the audience more
YAS21303 Skills Academy and Personal Assessment BAS Reflection End of Y1 = start of Y2

in my presentation.
M: I will know that I improved when I can make eye contact easily with the audience and actually
answering questions easily without stuttering.
A: I’m going to practice these abilities with my family and friends first. When I master this with my
friends and family I will practice it with fellow students so that when I do presentations I would
include my audience better.
R: It is realistic because practice makes prefect and when I master it the my presentations will
improve and my message can get more clearly across.
T: I am aiming to finish this before this semester. So that I can start year 2 with a solid way of doing
presentations.

SMART goal 2:
S: I would like to improve to not get shy and nervous in my presentations.
M: I will know I improve by when I feel confident and relaxed in my presentations. Now when I
need to make a presentation I get really nervous and stutter in my presentations. When I stop
getting these feelings I will know I improved and can present better.
A: I’m going to fight my scares and train in-front of fellow students that I don’t know. This can
incurable me for being less timid so that I don’t get that nervous. I will also start doing exercise
that lowers nervousness and practice this every-time before doing a presentation.
R: It is realistic because everyone has become nervous but with time and practice everyone can
get better at this.
T: I am aiming to finish this before this semester. Dealing with nervousness is not something easy
to deal with but with all the practice I’m planning on doing this year I am certain I will make this
happen.

3. Describe for the skill, whether you succeeded in achieving your SMART learning goals and how
you did it (include courses in which your worked on the current skill, what you did, and what you
learned from it)
Presenting
I did/did not achieve SMART goal 1, because:
I Partly did, because I tried to include more eye contact during my presentations but I still feel I
don’t include the audience in my presentations.

I did/did not achieve SMART goal 2, because:

I did, I slightly feel less shy and nervous during my presentation. Especially comparing to my high-
school years. I still can improve this but I did improve this. I worked allot of this during the
presentation of YAS210400 because the classmates were really nice and supportive during my
presentation.

4. Describe if you achieved growth in another way than you stated in your goals. What did you
learn about your strengths, your preferred styles and your challenges?
Presenting
YAS21303 Skills Academy and Personal Assessment BAS Reflection End of Y1 = start of Y2

Other achievements/strengths/style/challenges:
- I feel that my achievements helped me to get more strength and present in a better more
confident doing this now. I feel like it was a challenge but in every presentation my
classmates helped me allot to get over this and helped me feel more relaxed.

5. What have been the most important factors for you to achieve or not achieve a learning goal?
Presenting
I think the most important factor for me to achieve this goal was like I said my classmates. They
attentively heard my presentations each time and asked questions about it. It let me feel that I
actually helped them acquire new knowledge about my topics.

6. Based on your reflection, formulate two new SMART goals for the coming period. What are you
going to do differently this year than last year to meet the learning goals?
Presenting
SMART goal 1:
S: Engaging and meaningful connection with the audience
M: Increase my connection with the audience by using more non-verbal communication and do
more eye-contact
A: I think this is archivable, I will try to attend presentation skills workshops if this is an option. I
will also practice in-front of peers for feedback.
R: Building a stronger connection with audience will make my presentation more effective and
informative
T: I hope to finish this by the end of the year. Hopefully I get more presentation to do this year to
practice this skill.

SMART goal 2:
S: Enhance my presentation techniques to make it more clear and persuasive
M: Answering the questions more deeply to know more about the topic. Also try to do my
presentations more of a storytelling technique so the message is more understandable.
A: I would also try to attend presentation skill workshops at school or online. Also by using
powerpoint with information that can come with questions for the public if they are interested to
know more about the topic.
R: Improving this skill will lead to a more successful and impactful presentations -> Wether for a
course or for the future
T: I aim to finish this skill at the end of this school year.

I am going to do differently -> Try to engage more with the audience and give them ideas of what
YAS21303 Skills Academy and Personal Assessment BAS Reflection End of Y1 = start of Y2

type of questions they can ask at the end of the presentation.

 By doing this I can encourage the audience to approach at me for more information that I
would gladly give.
For the new smart goal am trying to bring my topic more clearly in my presentations. This I would
like to learn about the different techniques that are available such as the storytelling technique.
