CAMP YELLORIVER

EXT. NEW YORK CITY STREET - DAY

The morning rush, pedestrians crowd the streets on their way

to work and school.

ADRIENNE MURPHY appears amongst the crowd, she has a

confident stride and seems unbothered about the commotion
around her as if she’s used to it.

She suddenly makes a sharp turn into a modern looking glass

building with a sign outside that reads “Modish Magazine.”

INT. MODISH OFFICE - DAY

Adrienne exits the elevator on her floor, her heals click on

the polished floor as she walks passed her INTERN.

INTERN
Good morning Ms. Murphy!

She breezes past the intern as if he weren’t there, instead

going straight to the door of her office.

She pulls out her keys and begins to unlock her door.

COLETTE JENSEN pokes her head out of her office at the other
end of the hall.

COLETTE
Adrienne? May I have a word?

ADRIENNE
(Looks up surprised)
Of course Colette.

She takes her keys out of the lock of her office door and
walks down the hall towards Colette.

INT. COLETTE’S OFFICE - DAY

Colette ushers Adrienne in.

COLETTE
Take a seat.

The women take their respective seats and sit in silence for
a moment. Adrienne finally breaks the silence.

ADRIENNE
So, what is this about?
2.

COLETTE
You are one my top writers, is that
correct?

ADRIENNE
(confidently)
I’m the top writer.

COLETTE
(laughing)
See, that’s what I love about you
Murphy. You’ve got moxie,
confidence, you get straight to the
point.

Adrienne leans back in her chair, looking smug.

COLETTE (CONT'D)
(suddenly firm)
So tell me, why have your past
three articles been shit?

ADRIENNE
(surprised)
I’m sorry?

Colette reaches into one of the drawers from her desk and
pulls out a file. She opens it and spreads the papers across
her desk.

COLETTE
I’ve read through your most recent
pieces, I can’t publish these.

Adrienne shuffles through the papers.

ADRIENNE
What- I don’t understand...

COLETTE
(Cutting her off)
You’ve gone soft kid. People read
your work because you write hard
hitting stories, you dig up dirt.
But these articles here, they’re
fluff pieces. You know better than
anyone, Modish is not fluff.

Adrienne sits in her chair, looking much smaller than when

she came in. She takes a breath and composes herself.

ADRIENNE
I can turn this around Colette, I
promise.

3.
ADRIENNE (CONT'D)
What do you need from me, I can
share my upcoming ideas, we could
brainstorm-

Colette puts a finger up, causing her to trail off.

COLETTE
I already have your next
assignment.

ADRIENNE
(taken aback)
What is it?

COLETTE
(handing Adrienne another
file)
Camp Yelloriver. One of the most
famous camps in the northeast. I
got an anonymous tip, apparently
the place is in shambles.

ADRIENNE
I’m writing an article... about a
summer camp?

COLETTE
If this place is really in the
condition that the tipster claims
it is, this could make national
news. I want to get ahead of this
before the times gets their grubby
little fingers all over it.

ADRIENNE
What do you need me to do?

COLETTE
Go up there for a week or two, do a
little investigation, see if it’s
really as bad as this person says-

ADRIENNE
(flipping through the
file)
So I just show up and say “Hi, I’m
here to investigate you?”

COLETTE
I already called, told them my
daughter needs a summer job.
They’re more than happy to have you
on board.
4.

ADRIENNE
When do I leave?

COLETTE
Tomorrow.

ADRIENNE
(shocked)
Tomorrow?

COLETTE
Look Murphy, this is time
sensitive. The tipster called us,
who knows how many other places
they called. I want to be the first
on this story, got it?

ADRIENNE
(faking a smile)
Yes m’am.

Colette sits back in her chair, looking satisfied. Adrienne

looks uneasy, but is trying to hide it.
