BIM vs CIM
BIM CIM

www.its.ac.id Adapted from Bew and Richards, 2008

• CIM is more than a group of all the BIM models!
• CIM represents higher level networks of infrastructure, governance and
human activity and ultimately forms the structure that holds all BIM
models together!
• CIM allows the description, visualisation, analysis and monitoring of the
urban environment to support urban design and planning from the very
local to the regional!
• CIM meets the needs of the various stakeholders with specific design
and decision support tools!
• The backbone of CIM is an integrated, cross-disciplinary, spatial data
model based on open standards!

An augmented reality view of a city being used as an urban planning tool

Learn about modelling VR? from MIT Media Lab.Ariel Noyman/MIT Media Lab
https://courses.planetizen.com/track/virt AR has captured the public imagination in the form of Pokémon games,
ual-reality-for-urban-planning Snapchat filters, Minecraft demos, and much more.
3D Urban Planning Program Integrates with VR
“The objective is to involve citizens in the decision-making
process, stop top-down urbanisation,”
“What we do first is a lot of communication about potential
solutions so that people are aware what can be done, how it works
and how much it costs,” - David Laure
“It helps city planners make sure an investment is going to be useful
and that all the solutions have been explained to the people that are
most concerned by it,” - Boursetty
