Job Purpose:

To provide a comprehensive commissioning & technical support service for a range of


clinical equipment.

Use of £100,000 worth of tools and test equipment and appropriate use of spare parts.

Main responsibilities:

1. To provide a comprehensive maintenance and repair service for clinical


equipment, appropriate to the post-holder’s skills and knowledge.

2. To perform urgent and unscheduled repairs which will interrupt daily working
schedules.

3. To ensure that Trust safety policies and working procedures are adhered to
when carrying out work on clinical equipment and to recommend changes that
will enhance the service.

4. To regularly review maintenance arrangements and his/her own working


practices and ensure that the Technician Team Leader is made aware of any
need, or opportunity, for change that might improve patient safety or the
technical service provided by the Department.

5. To accurately record all work carried out, materials used, and any other details
required by the Clinical Engineering Manager or Technician Team Leader in
support of the Trust’s equipment management system.

6. To be conversant with the Department’s equipment management system and to


input data / update files using the keyboard, as required.

7. To carry out workshop and Health & Safety duties as determined by the
Technician Team Leader.

8. To plan own workload within the framework of the daily requirements.

9. The post holder will be required on a daily basis, after appropriate manual
handling training, to lift, move and transport clinical equipment within the trust
and to other sites where the department has a maintenance commitment. This
includes loading/unloading vehicles and travelling between sites.

10. The post holder will be required to carry out on-call duties as determined by the
Clinical Engineering Manager or Technician Team Leader. Out-of-hours
working, without prior notice, is at times required to attend breakdowns on
essential equipment that is supported by the Department. A flexible approach to
working hours is essential as some shift work or overnight stays may be
required when access to equipment conflicts with operational workloads or due
dates for maintenance.

11. The post holder will be required to work at other sites within the Trust and at
other healthcare centres where the Department has equipment maintenance
commitments.

12. The post holder will be required to attend service training courses, seminars and
lectures that are relevant to the maintenance, repair and safety of clinical
equipment. Attendance may, on occasions, require the post holder to be away
from home for several days.

13. The post holder may at times be exposed to dust, fumes, compressed gas and
occasionally body fluids on/in equipment. There is also an unavoidable
exposure to electrical hazards.

14. As a member of an Emergency Service the post holder will participate in


Business Continuity and Civil Contingency planning.

15. The post holder will have knowledge of and work within the Data Protection Act,
Caldecott Regulations and Trust policies and procedures for confidentiality and
information management.

16. Promote the vision; values; image and goals of the organisation.

17. Adhere to the dress code of the Trust while on duty and or in service dress or
using a service vehicle.

The duties and responsibilities of the post will be undertaken in accordance with the
policies, procedures and practices of the Trust, which may be amended from time to time.

Patient Safety is a key priority for the Trust. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are
fully compliant with EMAS policies and procedures in respect of patient safety, for example
Risk Management, Infection Prevention and Control, Safeguarding children and vulnerable
adults.
