JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB SUMMARY:
The Electro Bio-Medical Engineer will work as part of a multi-disciplined team of Engineers
and Engineering Technicians. The main responsibilities are acceptance testing, scheduling
and monitoring of planned preventative maintenance and the repair of medical equipment.
The role ranges from the management, repair and maintenance of hundreds of relatively
simple devices such as Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) units, Nebulisers,
Temperature Monitors, Flow meters and Regulators to highly complex medical equipment
such as Multi-Parameter Patient Monitors, ventilation equipment, Defibrillators and
Anaesthetic Machines.
RELATIONSHIPS:
The post-holder will report to the Head of EBME and be responsible to the Head of Facilities.
Display a high standard of self-discipline and attitude towards work at all times, in
view of both the nature of the equipment and its location.
Liaise with other healthcare professionals, clients and external organisations in the
resolution of complex issues.
Work unsupervised for long periods ensuring the ‘lone working policy’ is followed.
Carry out acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment, repairs, planned
preventative maintenance and electrical safety testing whilst ensuring your daily
work schedule is prioritised correctly.
To regularly work on medical equipment in patient areas, such as Critical Care Ward,
Special Care Baby Unit, Operating Theatres, Surgical and Medical Wards and to make
diagnosis on equipment whilst it is still connected to the Patient.
To ensure the technical safety of the equipment under your control or jurisdiction
and that it is within the prescribed specification as laid down in the relevant
statutory documents.
Attend lectures, seminars and training courses, where such a need is identified and
disseminate gained knowledge to other members of staff where applicable.
Any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post following discussions
with the post holder.

5. Capable of working in a demand driven service.
7. Good verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate with staff at
all levels and maintain accurate records.
