PROCEDURE FOR

ERECTION OF LATTICE TOWER

1. PRE-INSTALLATION PHASE

Upon receiving the packing lists, the team organizes to open the crates and unpack the tower
material using erection drawings and packing lists. The site-superintendant determines the
order of unpacking with respect to installation elevation of each material.

All material is laid on the ground and is checked for completeness using the packing lists and
erection drawings.

For stub type towers, after preparing foundation bars and before casting reinforced concrete
foundations, the first module above ground (5-6 meter) as well as buried stub anchors are
erected in a similar way described in item 2 below. The installation of first module above
ground stabilizes buried anchors before casting concrete.

Upon erection of stubs and first module to the foundation pit, the verticality of tower as well
as elevations are checked and verified.

After concrete casting of foundations a total of 1 week is allowed for concrete curing and
backfilling of foundations.

In 7 seven days concrete gains 70% of its target strength which is good for starting the
erection of tower. Since tower and foundations are designed for the extreme wind speed and
maximum antenna load, 70% of target concrete strength is enough to proceed with tower
erection.

2. INSTALLATION PHASE

Having the foundations ready and first module erected, the rest of erection may proceed.
Necessary mandatory tools are:
- a steel boom of approximately 6 m long which can be provisionally fixed to the tower
- appropriate pulleys
- wrench sets
- steel rope of 20 mm nominal diameter

The boom with a pulley on top is fixed to the top elevation of first module. 4 each erectors
work on the tower, meanwhile the crew on ground assists the lifting of each piece. The pulley
system is attached to the boom and lifting is carried out manually. 4 main legs are lifted and
installed in place by erectors on the tower. The diagonals are installed in the same manner.

All bolts and nuts are installed to face the same direction, i.e. head of horizontal bolts remain
on the interior side of the tower and head of vertical bolts face up.

Cat-ladder, ladder rungs, cable-way and platforms are also lifted manually using the pulley
system and are fixed in place.

Finally, accessories like obstruction light, lightening protection are installed and down cables
are fixed on the tower with suitable clamps supplied with the tower.

3. VERIFICATION

Verification of tower is considered as a continuous process from fabrication to final

inspection on site.

Verification on site consists of the following:

Pre-Installation checks:
Although fabrication and packing in the factory is carried out following certain QA/QC
procedures, all parts are laid on the ground before installation and a final visual check is
conducted for straightness, alignment and damage.

On-site repair is allowed for insignificant damages with the approval of site-superintendant,
otherwise rejected. Any damaged piece that may endanger the structural integrity shall be
replaced.

Installation checks:
Inspection of installation takes place in every main elevation of the tower (elevation of splice
points on the tower legs). Installation and inspection of first module of the tower is of crucial
importance. Inspection is done with two major checks:

- After the erection of first module up until the first splice level, the upper elevations of
tower legs on the splice point are compared and adjusted
- Distance between the tower legs at the splice elevation is measured in two orthogonal
and diagonal directions and the values are compared. The reference point for
measurement is the outermost sharp edge of each angle profile.

Inspection of every module is carried out with the same procedure and the upper modules do
not proceed until verification of current installation.

Final Inspection:
A final inspection is conducted with the participation of site-superintendant. Below-listed
items are checked:

- Uppermost elevation of tower

- Distance between tower legs at the ground level (orthogonal and diagonal)
- Distance between tower legs at every splice level (orthogonal and diagonal)
- Elevations
- Missing bolts / nuts
- Platform, ladder, ladder cage, grating, handrail connections
- Completeness of installation (main elements and accessories)
- Lightening protection and obstruction light cable connections

4. HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
Health and safety requirements is comprised of the following items:

4.1 Personnel
a. The team is comprised of minimum 5 experienced erectors that specifically work in
that field. Unskilled local workers will not be allowed to climb on the tower.
b. The installation team will be equipped with the specified safety tools at all times
during work hours.
c. No personnel will be allowed to work in excess of 12 hours/day in the extreme case.
Such case will not duplicate in successive days.

4.2 Site and Weather Conditions

a. The tower erection will not continue unless it is away from existing power lines with a
suitable margin / unless power cut is confirmed.
b. The tower erection will not continue during strong wind, storm, sand storm or
inconvenient conditions.
c. Working at night on the tower will be not allowed without proper lighting and
approval of site-superintendant and client.
d. No bare power cables or powered male plugs will be left on site.
e. People other than erection team will not be allowed on site without approval site-
superintendant / client.

4.3 Lifting (when carried out with crane)
a. The crane and lifting accessories (rope, hook, etc.) will be in proper condition as
acceptable by the site-superintendant.
b. The crane operator will have enough experience and skill level.
c. The crane reach will be away from existing power lines.
d. The crane side supports will be resting on suitable ground and will have wedges
underneath.
e. Nobody will be allowed under the lifted part.
f. The total weight of parts to be lifted at once will in no case be above the specified
capacity of the available crane.

4.4 Other
a. All loose / unfixed members of the tower will be lowered to ground before lunch
break/ stop of work.
b. All hand tools, bolts and loose accessories will be treated as in item a. above.
