 CRYSTAL CARE 101
HOW TO CLEANSE, CHARGE AND PROGRAM A CRYSTAL SO THAT YOU
CAN TAP INTO ITS CODES AND INFORMATION.
There’s a lot of contrasting information out there regarding
crystals. Here I’ll share what I know, what I have learned and
break it down for you!
It’s important to cleanse and charge crystals before you work
with them. Crystals experience a lot of different energies before
they get to us. Imagine their journey from the earth to your
hand! So let’s start at the beginning.
When a crystal is mined, it experiences the trauma of being
cut out of its matrix (the bed in which it is grown). Often, in
addition to that initial change, crystals are removed from their
neighbouring crystals or sliced open so that they can be sold as
single specimens. I know that all of this is traumatic for them,
but I can also sense that they are destined and willing to go
through this in order to bring more light to the Earth.

Next, the crystal must go through many hands, such as the
distributors and sellers, before it comes to you. It could have
been mailed through the post or wrapped in plastic. So cleansing
is key.
It’s important to note that when you are cleansing them, you’re
not washing the crystal of its natural powers or ancient wisdom!
See it more as cleansing any dirt or debris from people’s energy,
places or other vibrations it’s been exposed to along the way.
The presence of light and Earthly wisdom is still locked inside
of this incredible being. When you cleanse, you create more
possibilities to experience that light and wisdom.

 WAYS TO CLEANSE A CRYSTAL:
Sunlight
The power of light is wonderful for
cleansing a crystal of any lower
vibrations. Allowing the crystal to sit in
the sunlight for a good hour is a nice
way to let the sun remove any old,
stuck energy.
Tip: leaving crystals in direct sunlight
can change or lighten the colours of a
certain species such as amethyst and
kunzite. It is best to monitor them and
not leave them for hours or days so as
to avoid any unwanted changes.

Rainwater or natural
flowing streams
Placing crystals outdoors during rainfall
is a great way to cleanse them. You can
also hold crystals in natural flowing
streams or under waterfalls or even a well
such as the Chalice Well in Glastonbury
to cleanse them of old energies. As
you do so imagine the water cleaning
them and supporting them to hold light
once more.
Tip: If you have the resources you can
bottle streamed water, flowing water or
rain water to pour over crystals. You can
even bottle this natural water in a spray
bottle to make it easier for cleaning
purposes.
Important: Not all crystals respond well
to water. Selenite is a good example and
will break up and dissolve, as will angelite
and celestite. Google is a great resource
as you begin to explore and will help you
check if a crystal will react. Most quartz
forms like amethyst, citrine, and rose
quartz are all safe.
Crystal Care 101
Sacred Smoke,
Smudging and Incense
working with sacred smoke is a wonder-
ful way to cleanse a crystal. Hold the
crystal over the smoke while visualising
it washing away or carrying away any
low energies.
Tip: Ensure your sacred smoke is from
a fair-trade source. With the rise in use
of sacred plants such as Palo Santo and
White Sage, a lot of plant poaching and
unfair treatment is going on. Read up
on your supplier. Sweetgrass and Sage
are also surprisingly easy to grow, so if
you have some garden space or a good
indoor spot, you may want to consider
doing so.

 HOW TO CHARGE A CRYSTAL:
Moonlight
Moonlight – Where sunlight is cleansing,
moonlight is charging. Leaving your
crystals in the light of the moon allows
them to be charged with lunar, healing
energies. The best time to charge
around the time of the full moon.

Sacred Space or Sacred Sites
By taking a cleansed crystal into sacred
space, a ceremony or even to visit a
Sacred Site such as Stonehenge or
Mount Shasta, you also charge it with
the ancient wisdom held in that space.
Crystal Care 101
Asking a Master or Archangel
You can invite a divine being in prayer
to charge the crystal with their light and
rays. If you know there’s a specific aura
colour associated with the Archangel
or Master you are calling in, you can see
that light charging up the frequency of
the crystal being.
Visualisation to cleanse + charge
You can also use the power of
visualisation to help you cleanse a crystal.
I visualise that any lower vibrations are
taken down into the soil and Earth,
where they are purified instantly and
turned to healing light that is sent
through the land touching nature, plants
and animals. I then imagine that a source
of light from Earth Star is brought into
the crystal being and fills it with light.
I then see a source of light streaming
down from Stellar Gateway and Soul
Star the pierces into the crystal filling it
with light.

 HOW TO PROGRAM
A CRYSTAL
Programming a crystal is about creating a ‘crystal clear’ intention
for your work together. I love the art of programming a crystal.
Often people will come to my events and ask me to bless their
crystal or mala beads, but programming is what I’m actually
doing.

After a crystal has had time to cleanse and charge, ensure

that your energy is clean and clear. Hold the crystal in your
right hand. Overlap it with your left. Then be clear about your
intention together.

For example, if this crystal is to help someone you love on their

healing journey you can say this:

“For the highest good, I set the intention that this crystal is
programmed to initiate and support the healing process of
(their name). Thank you, crystal light for supporting them on
their journey to their natural state of wellness.”

Or if you’re working with a crystal that is meant to help you

connect with the Angels or Masters, you can say:

“I set a clear intention to program this crystal to help me open

up and experience a crystal clear connection with the Angelic
realm and the divine Masters, so that I can experience their
guidance, wisdom and infinite love.”

When you’re finished you can end it with: And so it is!

And voilà! Crystals cleansed, charged and programmed.
