IGCSE Physics Average Speed~ Distance-time graphs vocab list:

Pg. 4~pg.6
1. **Orbit**: The path followed by an object around a celestial body due to gravitational
attraction. For example, the orbit of Earth around the Sun.
2. **Acceleration**: The rate of change of velocity of an object with respect to time. It measures
how quickly an object's velocity is changing. If an object speeds up, slows down, or changes
direction, it is experiencing acceleration.
3. **Deceleration**: A type of acceleration where an object's velocity decreases over time. It's
commonly referred to as negative acceleration. For example, when a car slows down to stop at
a traffic light.
4. **Velocity-Time Graphs**: Graphs that show how an object's velocity changes over time. The
horizontal axis represents time, and the vertical axis represents velocity. The slope of the graph
represents acceleration or deceleration.
5. **Metric**: A system of measurement used in science, which includes units such as meters
(for length), kilograms (for mass), and seconds (for time). The metric system is based on powers
of ten, making it easy to convert between different units.
**Gradient**: In the context of physics, gradient usually refers to the slope of a graph. It
represents the rate of change of a quantity with respect to another variable, such as time or
distance. For example, the gradient of a velocity-time graph represents acceleration or
deceleration.
