MOTION AND ITS TYPES

MOTION
Motion is the change in the position of an object over time. Motion is mathematically
described in terms of displacement, distance, velocity, acceleration, speed, and time.
The motion of a body is observed by attaching a frame of reference to an observer and
measuring the change in position of the body relative to that frame.

TYPES OF MOTION
There are three types of motion

1. Translatory motion
Motion in which all points of a moving body move uniformly in the same line or
direction. For example, vehicles motion. It is sub divided into
i. Linear motion
Motion of objects in a straight line or path. For example, a train moving
on its track, a man walking on the road etc
ii. Circular motion
Motion of objects in a circle or closed path. For example, motion of
satellites and motion of earth around the sun etc
iii. Random motion
Irregular motion of the objects. For example, birds flying and motion of
gas molecules etc
2. Vibratory motion
A body moves to and fro about its mean position is called vibratory
motion. Vibratory motion can be described as any object moving/swinging back
and forth, moving up and down, pulsating, spinning, or vibrating.
For example, swinging; pendulums, mass attached with a spring system are
the example of vibratory motion.

3. Rotatory motion
In simple terms, rotatory motion can be defined as the movement of any object
about an axis. A rotation is a circular movement of an object around a center (or
point) of rotation.
For example,a common examples of rotatory motion can be the fans of the
helicopter moving about a pivot and motion of spinner etc
