Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan
Fourth Quarter Week 1

I. LEARNING COMPETENCY

The students should be able to explain ingestion, digestion, absorption, assimilation,

and excretion. (S8LT-IVa-13)

II. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the 60 minutes lesson learning, the learners are expected to:
A. identify the organs that make up the digestive system;
B. ; and
C. explain ingestion, digestion, absorption, assimilation, and excretion.

III. SUBJECT MATTER

A. TOPIC: The Digestive System
B. Instructional Material: Laptop, chalk and board, pictures, activity charts, activity
sheets, crayons, bond papers, and visual aids.
C. Reference: S8LT-IVa-13
D. Integration of content: English, Art
Teacher’s Activity/ies Learner’s Expected Response/s
1. Daily Prayers
2. Greeting the Class
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Passing of Assignments

GIVE ME LIFE!

The teacher will ask the students to perform

the activity by pair.

Mechanics: The teacher will hand out printed

materials then task the students to color the
organs that make up the digestive system.

See attached activity sheets.

SOLVE THE PUZZLE

The teacher will divide the class into five (5)

groups, wherein each group will be assigned
to a particular picture.

Mechanics: All group members will

participate in arranging the jumbled pieces
of the hidden picture. Each group will
brainstorm to answer the guide questions
right after solving the puzzle. One
representative for each group will be given 2
minutes to discuss.

Guide Questions:

1. What is the hidden picture?

2. What is the function of this organ in the

digestive system?

MOUTH
Explain (10 minutes) - It is where the journey of the food starts.

The chosen representatives of each group STOMACH

will share their answers based on the guide - is a J-shaped, bag-like muscular organ
questions provided. They will be given 2 where the foods eaten were stored.
minutes to share their ideas.
LIVER
Group 1: MOUTH - produces bile, a green fluid that turns large
fat droplets into smaller ones.
Group 2: STOMACH
SMALL INTESTINE
Group 3: LIVER - an organ that breaks down food further into
substances such as glucose.
Group 4: SMALL INTESTINE
LARGE INTESTINE
Group 5: LARGE INTESTINE - This is where reabsorption of liquid,
electrolytes and some vitamins from the
undigested food takes place.
Elaborate (20 minutes)

The teacher will give food to the students

then ask them to eat as the teacher explains
about the processes of digestion.

A. INGESTION is the first process that

happens in digestive system. It is the journey
of taking in food or any substance into the
body through the mouth. The journey of food
starts when it enters your mouth.

B. DIGESTION is the second process

involved in digestive system. It is the process
that involves break down of large food
molecules into smaller molecules for easy
absorption of the cells. Both chemical and
mechanical digestions begin immediately in
the mouth.
a. Teeth- cut, crush, and break food apart
into tiny pieces.
b. Tongue- helps mix food with saliva
secreted by the salivary glands.
c. Esophagus- a tube that attaches the
mouth to the stomach.
d. Stomach- The stomach is a J-shaped,
bag-like muscular organ where food
eaten were stored. The wall of the
stomach have special cells that
secrete gastric juices like hydrochloric
acid and pepsin that begin the
chemical breakdown of proteins.
e. Liver- produces bile, a green fluid that
turns large fat droplets into smaller
ones and store them in the gallbladder.
f. Gallbladder- a small pear-shaped sac
that can hold about 50ml of bile.
g. Pancreas- makes three different kinds
of enzymes namely amylase,
peptidase, and lipase released through
a pancreatic duct that aid in the
digestion of all three organic
compounds such as carbohydrates,
proteins, and fats, respectively.
h. Small intestine- is an organ that
breaks down food further into
substances, such as glucose, that can
be absorbed by the villi. It has three
parts namely the duodenum, the
jejunum, and ileum.
C. ABSORPTION is the process of passing
the soluble food molecules in the wall of the
small intestine through the villi.
a. Villi- the tiny, finger-like projections
from the epithelial lining of the
intestinal wall.
D. ASSIMILATION is the movement of
digested food nutrients into the blood vessels
of the small intestine through diffusion and
use of nutrients into the body cells through
the microvilli.
a. Microvilli- microscopic cellular
membrane projections that serves to
expand the surface area for diffusion
and also to lessen any increase in
volume.
b. Large intestine- This is where
reabsorption of liquid, electrolytes and
some vitamins from the undigested
food takes place. It is divided into
caecum, ascending colon, transverse
colon, descending colon, and sigmoid
colon.
E. EXCRETION/EGESTION It is the release
of undigested food collected in the rectum
called feces and pushed out of the body
through the anus by defecation.
(10 minutes)

The teacher will divide the class into three (3)

groups, wherein each group will be assigned
to a particular group activity.

Group 1 will make an illustration of the organs

in the digestive system.

Group 2 will illustrate the sequence of the

organs in the digestive system.

Group 3 will explain the functions of the

organs in the digestive system.
