Subtarea 2 Unidad 2
Subtarea 2 Unidad 2
In this Sub-task 2, you will identify similarities, differences, and simple and
compound sentences between the information in different scientific articles.
Objective
Activities or Exercises
Before developing Sub-task 2, you must have studied the content appearing in Sub-
task 1; identifying important concepts from articles and the websites where they
appear.
Instructions
Based on the abstracts from the articles seen in the Sub-task 1, develop the
following statements:
● Identify and write the similarities and differences related to the information.
SIMILARITIES (In english)
Observational studies: Both abstracts describe observational studies where
information is collected on a specific sample without intervening in the study
variables.
Relationship to health: Both abstracts address aspects related to human health.
The former focuses on the identification of COVID-19 related symptoms, while the
latter explores the impact of stress on physiological and psychological brain
functions.
Data collection: In both cases, specific data collection methods are used. The first
abstract mentions sending online questionnaires to patients with loss of the sense
of smell, while the second abstract records the visual and auditory reaction time of
medical students using a computer program.
DIFFERENCES (In english)
Research objectives and topics: the abstracts address completely different
research topics. The first focuses on identifying symptoms of COVID-19, while the
second analyzes the impact of academic stress on the cognitive performance of
medical students.
Study population: the study groups are different in each abstract. The first focuses
on outpatients in Brazil with loss of sense of smell, while the second focuses on
· Universidad de Antioquia · Vicerrectoría de Docencia · Escuela de Idiomas · Ude@ · Educación Virtual ·
healthy, normal medical students at a specific medical college in Jaipur.
Variables and results: the abstracts present different variables and results. The
first presents results related to the loss of the sense of smell and its relationship
with COVID-19, while the second abstract shows results on visual and auditory
reaction time in academic stress situations.
In conclusion, although both abstracts are related to health and scientific research,
they differ significantly in their objectives, study populations, methods, and results.
Variables y resultados: Los resúmenes presentan variables y resultados
diferentes.
This generates an amount of stress in students that is related to exams and the
preoccupation with obtaining high grades, which is why it is called academic stress.
Therefore, it is crucial to have a tool to measure this stress in order to present
methods to overcome it.
In the present study, one such method is evaluated by assessing the reaction time
of entering first-year physicians.
The results revealed that stress within a limit facilitates positive feedback to the
information processing of the Central Nervous System, consequently decreasing
reaction time.
