The Price of Technology – Script

Jack, 17, He wears old trousers/joggers with a hoodie on

with the hood up. He also has a backpack on. He is a
reserved person, keeping to himself. He is also trying to
get a job to help his mum pay bills, he’s trying to save
up for a laptop to help him apply to more jobs.

INT: BEDROOM – EARLY MORNING

DAY 1:

The camera gets an upwards facing shot of the bed as an

alarm sound fades in, as ‘DAY 1’ shows up on screen. It
switches to a shot of the alarm going off showing the
time. JACK turns it off and then it fades out. The alarm
starts to ring again at it fades in again before he turns
it off once again before getting up.

The camera still pointing at the phone as Jack gets up

and out of frame, around 10 seconds later a notification
comes through on his phone lighting up his screen. He
grabs his phone sitting down on the side of his bed with
the phone in his hands.

The screen shows up next to him showing an email

declining him from a job interview. He turns the phone
off and puts it down before standing up and leaving the
phone on the bed.

The camera then cuts to a shot of his desk with pieces of

paper with ‘I will do any jobs you need me to’. Jacks
hand comes into frame and grabs the paper before cutting
back to the bed where Jack is seen putting the papers in
his bag. His phone beeps again and he picks it up, it’s a
message from his mum, saying ‘I’m at work, I’ll be back
soon and go and put the flyers up.’

Jack starts to reply saying ‘yeah I’m going too now.’

After he sent that he puts his phone down and zips his
bag up. He stands up puts his bag on before walking out
of frame.
His arm reaches back into frame before grabbing the
phone. He goes downstairs before walking out the door.

EXT: OUTSIDE - MORNING

The camera cuts to outside as Jack steps outside and
walks out of frame. The shot starts with a medium shot
from across the road as he’s walking down the road, the
same notification ring makes him pull his phone out and
it shows another email declining him from another job but
he carries on walking and puts his phone away. The camera
then cuts to behind the pole as Jack pins a piece of
paper to it before walking away. As he leaves frame the
camera cuts to the piece of paper showing that it’s him
asking for jobs.
