Eight in 10 older Filipinos consider the idea of having homes for the aged in the Philippines,
although only two in 10 would want to live in them.
Therefore, approximately 80% of older Filipinos consider the idea of having homes for the
aged in the Philippines, while only 20% would want to live in them.
(These were some of the findings of the research “Aging in the Philippines: Findings from the
2007 Philippine Study on Aging (PSOA)” by Grace T. Cruz, Josefina N. Natividad, Melissa L.
Gonzales, and Yasuhiko Saito.)
With the chosen client the Art Association of Bacolod-Negros (AAB) one of the branches of Art
Association of the Philippines (AAP) that have 65 visual artist members.
Figures from the PRA showed that Western Visayas hosts only one percent, or about 500, of the
53,000 foreign retiree-holders of Special Resident Retirement Visa (SRRV).
20% of 500 (number of retirees in Bacolod-Negros base from PRA) = 100 expected
Occupants from the public
Slightly more than half (55%) of all older people have trouble performing the Nagi measures of
physical functioning.
(PSOA, 2007)
For the results of self-reported disease status, the diseases were grouped into those that are readily
apparent by their symptoms alone (Group 1) and those that require medical diagnosis (Group 2).
Arthritis/neuralgia/rheumatism is the most prevalent (54%) of all diseases.
