The word “ideology” is composed of two Greek words “idea” and “logos”. It literally means
“the science or study of ideas.”
The term Ideology is a complex phenomenon in the study of Social Sciences on which a great
deal of controversy exists among scholars on its meanings and definition. The French
Philosopher Autoine Destull de Tracy used the word Ideologie during French Revolution and
defined it as “the Science of Ideas meaning thereby as the study of the origins, evolution and
nature of ideas”.
Definition of Ideology:
• Ideology is the set of ideas or norms on which the collective ideals of community, nation
and millat are based.
• An ideology offers an interpretation of the past, and an explanation of the present and a
vision of the future.
• A political ideology is a system of beliefs that explain and justifies a preferred political
order, either existing or proposed and offers a strategy (institutions, processes
programmes) for its attainment.
• The social or political programme of any movement that becomes a collective objective
of any nation is called ideology.
• Ideology means such an aim according to which human beings planned about their future.
Ideology of Pakistan:
Pakistan ideology is based on the ideals of the Islamic system. It was a reaction to the Hindu and
British exploitation of the Muslims of the sub-continent. The ideology of Pakistan was the
consciousness of the Muslim in the historical perspective of the south Asian sub-continent that
they were a separate nation on the basis of the Islamic Ideology. No doubt Islamic ideology is the
base of ideology of Pakistan so the basic fundaments of Islam are also the bases of the Ideology
of Pakistan.
Pakistan Ideology:
The creation of Pakistan was unique in the sense that it was based on an ideology which sought
its roots from the religion of Islam. The famous slogan “Pakistan ka mtlb kia, La ilaha illaha”
became the core of the freedom movement and the basis of Pakistan.
7. Source of Power
Islam gave the concept of two nation theory in sub-continent and secured the separate
recognition of the Muslims in sub-continent. Two nation theory protected the Muslims in the
hour of need especially in British rule, that’s why ideology of Pakistan is the source of power
in the sub-continent on which base the Muslims struggle hard for the attainment of Pakistan.
Finally they succeed to achieve Pakistan.
