I would use the student centred learning technique. Why? Education has evolved over the
years. What was once a teacher-centred classroom is a student-centred learning
environment? But what is it? A healthy student-centred learning environment is one where
students feel comfortable taking risks, trying new things, and being themselves.
This approach to education focuses on the individual learner’s needs. This type of learning
puts the student at the centre of the learning process and gives them a voice in what they
are learning. The teacher is more of a facilitator than a lecturer in a student-centred
classroom. This learning environment allows students to be more engaged in their education
and take ownership of their learning. When students are actively involved in their education,
they are more likely to retain the information.
Increased Engagement
Improved Critical Thinking Skills
Strong Relationship With the Teacher
Develops a Love of Learning
Better Preparation for the Real World
Suggestopedia seeks to create a safe, relaxed environment where learners feel comfortable
and secure. Learning activities are often carried out in a group setting and are designed to
be enjoyable and stimulating. Music, drama, and visual imagery are often used to make
learning more effective. The use of positive suggestion techniques, such as affirmations,
also helps to increase motivation.
3. Increased retention.
4. Improved communication skills
When I was in primary school my teachers used the audio lingual method and the teacher
centred method. When in higher standards also the teacher centred method was used.
When we were taught Afrikaans they used the grammar translation method.
I remember my teacher using this method to teach me English. The Audio-Lingual Method is
a teaching method that emphasizes the use of repetitive drills and patterns to teach
language skills. This method is based on the idea that language learning is similar to habit
formation, and that language can be acquired through repetition and practice. The focus of
the method is on the development of listening and speaking skills, rather than reading and
writing, and it is typically used to teach practical, everyday language.
In teacher-centred education, students put all of their focus on the teacher. You talk, and the
students exclusively listen. During activities, students work alone, and collaboration is
discouraged. I remember this method being used a lot when I was in my senior and tertiary
education.
The grammar translation method focuses on the literature and grammar of the target
language, with passages being translated into and from the mother tongue. Consequently it
tends to be very much text-based. Typically, the teacher gives instructions and grammatical
explanations in the mother tongue. Little or no attempt is made to teach pronunciation. My
teacher used this method to teach us Afrikaans.
None of these methods really resonated with me because I believe in those days teachers
were not trained much in many teaching methods and relied on their own instincts to teach.
Today I believe better methods are being used.
