VOICE CLASSIFICATION

• Vocal differs considerably depending on it’s


timbre ( quality and range)
• As to timbre voices are classified into Women’s
voice and Men’s voice’s
1. WOMEN’S VOICE
A. Soprano – Tone is lighter in character , less
somber and frequently more flexible. It’s divided
into ;

1. Coloratura soprano –Highest and slightest of all


voice’s. The music writer for this voice quality is
full of runs, trills and light ornaments.
2. Mezzo soprano – Medium high in tonal quality.
3. Lyric soprano – Less high and flute like. It is
suited for sweet song like melodies.

B. Alto or Contralto – The tone is richer and fuller


2. MEN’S VOICE’S
A.Tenor – The highest type in men’s voice.

B. Baritone – Lies between tenor and bass.

C. Bass- Lowest and deepest voice quality.


INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
▪ A side from voice instrument are the other medium in
producing music . Instrumental music are classified
into ;

1. Sonata – a long composition for solo instrument,


consisting of large sections called movements are
the allegro , adante and rondo.

An example is sonata in C major by composer wolf gang


A. Mozart.
2. Suite – a series of Music piece’s that tells the story
is called program music while a music no story is
absolute. An example is the “ Nut cracker suite
“composed by peter Tchaikovsky.

3. Symphony- a sonata for the orchestra. Ludwig Van


Beethoven ( 1770 – 1827) was a great musician
remembered for this immortal symphonies.
4. Concerto – a sonata for solo and orchestra designed
to show off virtuosity of the soloist . Some of the greatest
concerto musicians were J.S Bach and Vivaldi.

5. Chamber Music – written for two solo ( violines and


flutes ) basso continuo ( low string and keyboard) and
usually several movements. Chamber Music is classified
into sonata de Camara ( chamber sonata) and sonata da
chiesa( church sonata ) Some composer of chamber
music were Vitali J.S. Bach , Torelli and purcelili.
