HOME ASSIGNMENT

ACTIVITY 1: Write a coherent text of three paragraphs in English. In this text make sure that you
have described your area/domain of studies.

Textiles in all their forms are omnipresent in everyday life, even if it is only in clothing and the
home, which are the most well-known fields of application for textiles. The latter is used in almost
all industrial sectors: in transport (automotive, rail, aeronautics), agriculture, medicine or sport,
construction or electronics.
The textile industry chain is one of the longest and most complex in the manufacturing sector. The
manufacture of textile products requires many steps, the control of which guarantees quality. So
many activities covered by the textile industry.

Weaving is a fabric production process in which two separate sets of yarns are interwoven at right
angles to form a fabric. The vertical threads are called warp threads and the horizontal threads are
weft threads.
Bespoke tailoring involves making a finished garment from a fabric.
It has the particularity of being able to be worn only by the person for whom it is intended.
The different parts that make up the garment go through the choice of fabric, the measurements,
the cuts in the fabric and then assembled during the different stages of the confection.

Ennoblement this term refers to the different steps that will give the textile a certain number of
characteristics: bleaching, dyeing, printing, mechanical or chemical finishes, coating. Certain
treatments can be carried out on the yarn, on the fabrics and even on the finished products.

ACTIVITY 4. Write a summary of the text 1 that you use for reading comprehension between 80-
90 words.

summary

India’s textile industry is a diverse array of activities in both the craft and industrial sectors. These
sectors use natural or artificial fibers to weave or knit. Their textiles are unique in that they connect
with agriculture and their culture and tradition. They are the first jute producers in the world.
Second largest textile producer in the world and third largest cotton producer, it provides the largest
number of jobs after the agricultural sector. Textiles are the basic means of subsistence of the
population and contribute to socio-economic objectives. (89 words)

ACTIVITY 5: As a future engineer, what will you do to contribute to the development of textile
industry in Burkina Faso. Write three coherent paragraphs to give your answer.

After my studies in textile engineering what I intend to bring to the development of the textile
industry in Burkina Faso is:

First of all, I would like to add my own touch to the craft sector by encouraging the already existing
Burkina Faso-Dafani designs to mass production and develop other designs.

Secondly, I plan to develop a project in the tailor-made garment sector by producing large-scale
garments (jackets, shirts, polo shirts, skirts, jeans...). Example: A manufacturing company with
more than 1500 sewing machines and employing more than 3000 people (tracing, cutting, sewing,
embroidery, printing, packaging,)

Finally, I intend to develop the technical textile sector in Burkina Faso because in this area the
production is unlimited, it depends on the customer's need. Example: bulletproof vests, fireman's
clothes, gloves for heat protection, fishing thread, ropes, sewing thread, work outfits reinforce for
daily use, bright clothes, t-shirt that warms, or that cools...

ACTIVITY 6: Translate the text below from English into French
In western Burkina Faso cotton sector is considered an engine of development. The cotton
sector generates substantial incomes for many producers and the country and reinforces a
continuous process of innovation. The success of cotton production is linked both to concerted
actions between cotton companies, research, extension and also producer organizations that are
part of an innovation system and secondly to the organization of the market based on contractual
relationships that secure the relationships between producers and industrial firms. This innovation
system had an impact on rural dynamics by increasing the cotton yield, increasing of the area
cultivated by active, strengthening the development of the mechanization, increasing the
differentiation between farms depending on the level of mechanization, increasing farm incomes,
increasing the work load at farm level with a new division of labor between genders. The innovation
system has also an effect on access to credit, access to inputs, access to family services (water,
electricity), strengthening producer organizations and the emergence of an agro-food sector linked
to cotton (fiber and oil).

Translated text
