What is The World Scholar's Cup ?

The World Scholar's Cup is a global academic tournament that combines debate, collaborative
writing, multiple-choice tests, and a multimedia quiz. The core idea is to motivate students to not
just focus on existing skills and areas of strength but also to discover new ones.

The single best starting point for learning more about the World Scholar’s Cup is this quick 7-
minute introductory video from our 2018 Global Round in Kuala
Lumpur: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43nNQ0p9jDY&feature=youtu.be
Each year scholars explore a new overarching theme. The theme for the Chandigarh Round will be
"Re-imagining the Present". Within the theme, students will explore the topics from six subjects –
history, science, literature, social studies, art and music, and a special area. The detailed curriculum
is available on the Scholar’s Cup website at www.scholarscup.org/subjects/

Students will work together in teams of three to research, debate, and solve problems related to the
theme. Each team will participate in four events:

Team Debate
Collaborative Writing
Scholar’s Challenge (multiple choice test)
Scholar’s Bowl (multimedia quiz)

Participation at any regional round can lead to berths at the Global Rounds and the finale event
hosted by Yale University in the United States. Around the core academic events are social events
including an optional talent show and a debate showcase. The event will be conducted by a team
from the World Scholar’s Cup Foundation, based in Los Angeles, USA.

A team of three students each, in two age groups (Junior and Senior Division), will be formed.

- After participating in a regional round, teams may earn invitations to a Global Round and a special
year-end conference at Yale University in the United States.

- The 2023 Global Rounds welcomed more than 10,000 students from over 60 nations and were
conducted in Doha, Seoul, London, Bangkok, Gold Coast, and Dubai.
