Warm Up!

TOPIC: How can we make our English class more interesting?

1. Form groups of eight (8) students.


2. Select a leader and a secretary for each group.
3. Let the secretary write down each member’s answer to the
question. Afterwards, the team shall decide whether it is a good
or a bad idea. The secretary may circle the good ideas and cross
out the bad ideas.
4. The leader shall narrow down the answers and share them with
the class.

1. Think of a general topic.
2. Brainstorm ideas based on the topic and make a list.

3. Use lines, arrows, asterisks, or whatever works for you to


illustrate connections.
4. Cross out topics that might not generate or add enough
information for writing.
5. Choose two of the remaining topics in your list and free
write about each chosen topic for five minutes.

Aside from coming up with a table as a brainstorming


strategy, you can also use your thesis statement, main idea,
argument, or purpose of the writing as the basis for your list.
Write down words, phrases, or statements that are related to
the topic.

general topic, and then follow the remaining steps. Make
sure to come up with the final topic to write about based
on the result of your brainstorming list. You will be given
one point for following each step (steps 2–5) and 1 point
for coming up with a final topic.
