VESSEL DESCRIPTION

Frame of reference (and metric conversions)

The frame of reference is set so that the ship’s characteristics are as follows in Table:

Aft Perpendicular 0m

Midship 27.85 m

Fwd Perpendicular 55.79 m

Length Between Perpendiculars 55.79 m

Baseline 0m

DatumWL 2.5 m

The transverse distances are measured from the centreline of the ship, positive on starboard and negative on

port. The trim is measured as the difference between draft at AP and draft at FP; the trim with the stern down is

defined as positive. The heel to starboard is positive, to port is negative.

STABILITY CRITERIA

The 300PAX Hullform has been assessed for intact stability and Deterministic damage Stability using

Maxsurf®_v.20.0 by following the code or criteria laid by INTERNATIONAL MARITIME

ORGANISATION(IMO) for intact stability and SAFETY OF LIFE AT SEA(SOLAS) for Damage

cases.

Intact Stability

Using all the criteria laid by INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANISATION (IMO) through

Resolution A.749 (18) CH-3, the intact stability of the 300PAX has been assessed for THREE

different loading conditions, which are as follows:

LC01 : LOADING WITH 100% CONSUMABLES

LC02 : LOADING WITH 50% CONSUMABLES

LC03 : LOADING WITH 10% CONSUMABLES

Passenger crowding Assumptions

Passengers are distributed on one side as follows:

1. 321 persons are distributed on the available deck space towards one side
of the ship on Wheel house deck where muster stations are located.
2. Weight of passenger is assumed as 0.075 tonnes(minimum)
3. Concentration of passengers is assumed as 4 persons/square meter.
4. VCG of passengers in Muster station is assumed to be 1.0 m above deck
level

calculation of passengers shift effect:

The angle of heel on account of all the passengers crowding to one side of he ship is
given by

Tan P = Transverse shifting moment due to crowding

Displacement x GM CPS

Where GMCPS is the corrected Metacentric height.

GMCPS = GM corrected for free surface of liquid – dGMVPS

dGMVPS represents the correction in GMT due to the vertical shift of passengers,
being obtained by

dGMVPS = (vertical shifting moment due to the crowding) / Displacement

Taking Loading Condition No. 1 ( 100% Stores , 100% Passengers)

We have Displacement = 1260 t; GM corrected = 2.56 m;

Weight of the passengers shifted = 24 t;

Transverse moment due to shift of passengers = 24x 3.95 = 85.37 t-m;

Vertical moment due to shift of passengers = 24 x 7.75 = 226 t-m;

dGMVPS = 226 / 1260 = 0.179 m

GMCPS = 2.56 – 0.179 = 2.32 m

So heel TanP = 85.37/ (1260 x2.32) = 0.0292

P = 1.67 < 10 o (allowable)

Hence the criterion as defined in 3.1.2.5 of resolution A 749 (18) is satisfied.
