ABSTRACT

250-300 words only, to be accomplished once the study is done. 4 key elements in
writing the abstract: Introduction, Problem Description, Motivation, and Relevance; Methods;
Results and Discussion; Conclusions, and Recommendations.

INTRODUCTION

Kindly delete the words in red font color once red. Do not change the indentions, font

style, and font spacing of this document.

Use the introduction to show that you are knowledgeable about your field of study and

existing research. Your introduction should contain: A summary of existing research on the

subject; Your thesis statement, hypothesis, and research questions; Relevant theories; An

introduction to the field, the current situation, or to prevailing practice. The introduction should

explain what we know, and what we are certain about. It should explain and summarize, but it

should also ask questions, clarify, compare, etc. Everything you write here must relate to your

research question.

Statement of the Problem

Simply state the research problem and the specific questions.

METHODOLOGY

Use your method chapter to show that you arrived at your results by applying valid and

reliable methods. Explain how you plan to carry out the data gathering phase.

Research Design
2

State the research design that includes the method (qualitative or quantitative) and the

specific design under that approach. Define them and cite your sources. Justify the reasons why

the study falls under that design.

Research Locale

Simply state where you plan to carry out the study, describe the geographical location of

your locale, and the reasons why you have chosen it.

Research Informants

Who will be your informants? How will you select them? What is your sampling

technique? Present the inclusion criteria in bullet points.

Research Instrument

Do not display the interview questions. Instead, describe how you plan to do the

interview. Is it structured? Semi-structured? Or Unstructured? Is the interview formal or

informal? Explain how you came up with the interview questions. Explain also that the questions

will be validated by experts.

Data Gathering Procedure

The steps taken in order to gather the data needed in the study are discussed in

detail in this segment. It includes how permission to conduct the study is obtained. It also

includes the instructions given to the participants before answering the instruments as

well as the retrieval of the questionnaires.

Data Analysis

Discuss the step-by-step process on how you are going to analyze the qualitative data.

You may use the method suitable for your design. Take for example: For Phenomenology, you
3

can use Colaizzi’s Phenomenological Approach or Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis. For

Narrative Research or other types such as Case Study, you can use Braun & Clarke’s Thematic

Analysis.

Ethical Considerations

Confidentiality and participants’ dignity are primary concerns in the research

study. Other ethical considerations should be firmly observed which include beneficence

(the study should provide advantageous results to the participants), non-maleficence

(completely no harm should come to the participants through this study) and justice

(prevention of unfairness in dealing with data).

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

Present the findings of your study based on the order of your specific questions in the

statement of the problem. Present the themes, formulated meanings, and significant statements

that have emerged from your analysis.

Conclusions

What answer(s) have you found to your research question? If you have a hypothesis, has

it been strengthened, weakened, or falsified? Do not introduce issues here that have not been

mentioned earlier. If the results of your study do not allow you to draw any conclusions, you can

end with a summing up.

Recommendations

Make recommendations that are based on your conclusions (to be applied in practice).
