Tattoos in the Workplace

Tattoos would not be unprofessional if they have limits in terms of their visibility to

society while on the body of the employee. People working in different platforms should have

the freedom to express themselves, but to a limited extent. Some professions do not allow one to

have the art in the form of tattoos as a form of expression; there are those who would allow

tattoos as long as they are not visible. There are those professions, such as in the music industries

which have no issues as to where the tattoos appear on generally.

Due to perception, there are those who take the issue of tattoos as unprofessional. That is

in specific industries; this art and form of expression is not accepted by many. They take it

negatively as they think that the employees are not intelligent enough. The consumers may think

that they do not have the capability of handling some of the tasks given to them because of the

expressions they have on their bodies. The business world, for instance, the banking industry, has

professionals who hide tattoos because of the work they handle so that they cannot reduce the

number of consumers due to the perception in the community on the same. The employees are

forced to maintain the highest level of professionalism so that they can serve the same

individuals diligently. They cannot have a tattoo on any visible place. Most of them choose areas

they can hide with the attires they wear.

The business sector requires its staff members to have a specific image, most of the time

they have to show the desires of letting the employees portray a positive image of the firm, and

this does not involve tattoos. The staff members should, therefore, follow the code as dictated to

them in the field they choose in the long run. The workers also have to be aware of the areas they

work in so that they would not get in trouble because of the choices they make. If they want to

express themselves, they should have the same invisible tattoos hidden from the eyes of people

to be safe.
