The Brain Parts and its Functions and Processes

1. Frontal Lobe

Location:
 The frontal lobes are in the front part of your brain, right behind your
forehead.

Functions and Processes:


 It is in charge of cognition and memory.
 It is also responsible for a person’s ability to concentrate, provide judgement,
perform analysis, solve a problem, establish a plan, and present personality
including emotional traits.
 This is the largest lobe, and it controls voluntary movement, speech,
personality, and intellect.

2. Parietal Lobe

Location:
 The parietal lobes are near the center of your brain.

Functions and Processes:


 It is interrelated to the integration of information from various senses.
 Some of its roles include spatial orientation, visual perception, parts of
speech, and pain and touch sensations.
 It contributes to the interpretation of touch.

3. Temporal Lobe

Location:
 These parts of the brain are near your ears on each side of your brain.

Functions and Processes:


 The temporal lobes are important in being able to recall words or places.
 It also helps recognize people, understand language, and interpret other
people’s emotions.

4. Occipital Lobe

Location:
 The occipital lobes are in the back of your brain.

Functions and Processes:


 It is also known as the visual cortex for it is considered as the visual
processing center of the brain, in which human dreams originate.
 Occipital lobes control how you process shapes and colors.

5. Cerebellum

Location:
 The cerebellum is in the back of your brain.

Functions and Processes:


 It is tasked in motion-related activities including timing and coordination.
 It maintains balance, posture, and fine motor skills.
 However, it is not responsible for initiating a certain movement.
 This part of the brain regulates fear and pleasure responses, and some
cognitive functions such as attention.

6. Brainstem

Location:
 The brainstem is in the lower part of the brain.

Functions and Processes:


 The brainstem regulates many automatic body functions.
 It allows the transfer of information from the brain down to the body, such
as beating of the heart and breathing.
 It connects the rest of the brain to the spinal cord.
